Change background colour of actual text box - has anyone found a way yet? 2 Recommended Answers 8 Replies 0 Upvotes
Whilst we're been able to change the colour of the background of each section type since New Sites was launched - has anyone yet found a way to change the background colour of the actual text box itself. A way to make a Top of page link into a button would be to change the background colour of the actual text box.
Any ideas or solutions yet?

When you create the button use the page picker to link it to the page: DO NOT paste in the URL of the page and then it will not open in a new tab

Having fed this back to Google some time ago, they're clearly not listening to this one.
I had wondered if anyone had found a hack to it. New Sites is so inferior to Classic :/
And this at a time when Facebook groups is getting even harder to administer, because their code writers don't understand the users either

For a simple "Back to top" link, use a Button instead of Text Box. When you insert a Button, you have the option changing its background to "Filled", which would be another colour.

The top of page link can be a button. You create it in a different page and CTRL-C to copy it and CTRL-V to paste it in the desired page.

The Back to top button at the bottom of the trial page https://sites.google.com/view/sites-toc-issues/home was generated by creating a second page, copying the button to home with Ctrl C and pasting it in the first page with Ctrl V. The problem is that in a single page site it insists on opening a new tab. As soon as the second page was deleted, the button and the TOC didn't behave as they did when there was two pages.

@Steegle, the page picker address of Page:home doesn't work in a button when the site only has one page.
Both links at the bottom of https://sites.google.com/view/sites-toc-issues/home were created by using the page link on the second page. The second page was hidden from navigation and the TOC stopped working. Whilst the Top of page text continued to work, the Top of Page button opened a new tab. The behaviour is exactly the same when the second unwanted page is deleted.
The link pasted in to the Top of page button was generated by Page:Home on the second page, but as soon as that second page is hidden or deleted then the link became -

This suggests the button was edited: if you delete a page on your site Google doesn;t randomly assign a URL to the button.
