'Site not found 404 error' when not logged in to G suite institution 0 Recommended Answers 5 Replies 8 Upvotes
Hi Google, can you please look at what happens when a G-suite user tries to access a link to our private site.
It is pretty misleading that when a user who is not logged in with their LGfL login tries to access the site, they get a 404 site not found message, rather than an error message telling them that they do not have permission and encouraging them to login again. The Google login screen would be much more helpful, as I am getting loads of emails from students (as admin) telling me that they can't access the site, when in fact all they need to do is login again, but the error page doesn't give them that option. Thanks.

I can confirm this is not an error with publishing. Google's own FAQs explain that if you try to look at a published site and you don't have access to that site, you'll see a 404 error. So if someone is logged into Chrome on their personal Google account, and try to visit a published site that is shared to their work or school account, instead of getting notice they don't have access or a chance to sign into the correct account, they get notice that the site doesn't exist at all. It's a pretty bizarre way to handle it.
