Share your site with other people

You can share your site with others so that:

  • People can view your site.
  • People can edit your site.
  • Your site is open to the public or a group of users.

This article is for the classic Google Sites (no “Publish” button at the top right). Get help for the new Google Sites.

Share and publish your site

If you want to let people see your site without an invitation, make it public. Otherwise, make it private. You can also share your site with specific people.

  1. Open your website in Google Sites.
  2. In the top right, click Share.
    • Make your site public: Go to "Who has access" and click Change. You can make your site public to everyone or public on your domain, let people with the link see it, or only allow visitors you’ve invited.
    • Invite people or Google Groups to your site: Go to "Invite people" and enter their names and then click Send.
    • Change someone’s permissions: Go to their name and click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
    • Remove a user: Go to their name and click Remove Remove.
  3. When you’re done, click Save changes.

Note: If you can’t make your site public, your domain administrator may have disabled public sites on your domain.

Learn about permissions

When you share your site, you can choose how people use it. Each permission level keeps the privileges of lower levels.

Choose the right permissions

Users set to "Can view" can:

  • View pages

Users set to "Can edit" can:

  • Create, edit, delete, or move pages
  • Add attachments and comments
  • Subscribe to site and page changes

Users set to "Is owner" can:

  • Set other people’s permission levels
  • Change site themes and layout
  • Change the site name
  • Delete the site
Fix "Insufficient privileges" error

If you see the "Insufficient privileges" error message, there’s something on the page you don’t have permission to see. Contact the owner of the site to ask for permission.

Change access to individual pages

You can give people different permissions on different pages.

  1. Open your website in Google Sites.
  2. In the top right, click Share.
  3. In the top right, click Enable page-level permissions and then Turn on page-level permissions.
  4. On the left, you’ll see a sitemap.
  5. To change a permission, click the page in the list and then click Change.
  6. Follow the instructions in the window.

Note: Making your site public may override page-level permissions
