Important: These program policies apply to the classic version of Google Sites. The new version of Sites is not governed by these program policies and is instead governed by the Abuse program policies and enforcement of Google Drive.
All references to “Google Sites” and “Sites” below refer to classic Google Sites.
Welcome to Google Sites, a service for you to communicate, connect, and collaborate with other users. We'd like to maintain an environment in which users are free to express their viewpoints and connect with others. In order to maintain this environment and ensure a positive user experience, we need to curb abuses that threaten our ability to provide this service and the freedom of expression that it encourages.
There are some boundaries on the type of content that can be hosted with Google Sites, which are explained in the policies below. From time to time, we may change our community standards, so please check back here.
To report a Google Site for violating one or more of our content policies below, click the Report Abuse link that appears at the bottom of every Sites page. Once you fill out the report and submit it, we will review the request and take action if appropriate.
To report illegal activity, please use this tool, which will guide you through the process of reporting content that you believe warrants removal from Google's services based on applicable laws. Completing this form will help ensure that we have all of the information necessary to investigate your specific inquiry and resolve it as quickly as possible.
Illegal activities
Do not use our service to engage in illegal activities or promote dangerous and illegal acts.
Spam, malware and phishing
Do not spam. Spam includes, but is not limited to, unwanted promotional, commercial, or manipulative content that adds little value for users or to Google.
Do not transmit viruses, malware, or any other malicious or destructive code. Do not distribute content that harms or interferes with the operation of the networks, servers, or other infrastructure of Google or others.
Do not use our service for phishing scams.
Hate speech
Our products are platforms for free expression, but we don't permit hate speech. Hate speech is content that promotes or condones violence against or has the primary purpose of inciting hatred against an individual or group on the basis of their race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, age, nationality, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or any other characteristic that is associated with systemic discrimination or marginalization.
Violent organizations and movements
Known violent non-state organizations and movements are not permitted to use this product for any purpose. Do not distribute content that facilitates or promotes the activities of these groups, such as recruiting, coordinating online or offline activities, sharing manuals or other materials that could facilitate harm, promoting ideologies of violent non-state organizations, promoting terrorist acts, inciting violence, or celebrating attacks by violent non-state organizations. Depending upon the content, we may also take action against the user. Content related to violent non-state organizations may be allowed in an educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic context, but please be mindful to provide enough information to help people understand the context.
Personal and confidential information
Do not distribute other people’s personal and confidential information, such as credit card numbers, confidential national ID numbers, account passwords, or any other information that is not publicly accessible. Do not post or distribute private nude or sexually explicit images or videos without the subject’s consent. If someone has posted a private nude or sexually explicit image or video of you, please report it to us here. Do not post or distribute images or videos of minors without the necessary consent from their legal representatives. Report a violation. Keep in mind that in most cases, information that is already available elsewhere on the Internet or in public records is not considered to be private or confidential under our policies.
Child exploitation
Do not upload or share content that exploits or abuses children. This includes all child sexual abuse imagery (even cartoon images) and all content that presents children in a sexual manner. We will remove such content and take appropriate action, which may include disabling accounts and reporting to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement.
If you find any content that you think exploits children in this manner, do not comment on such content, even if your intent is to bring it to Google’s attention. Instead, flag the content through the ‘Report Abuse’ link. If you find content elsewhere on the internet, contact NCMEC directly.
Sexually explicit material
We do allow mature content on Sites, including images or videos that contain nudity or sexual activity. If your site contains mature content, please mark it as “mature” in your Sites settings.
We may also mark sites with mature content where the owners have not. All sites marked as mature will be placed behind a warning interstitial. If your site has a warning interstitial, do not attempt to circumvent or disable the interstitial.
There are some exceptions to our adult content policy:
- Do not use Google Sites as a way to make money on mature content. For example, don't create sites that contain ads for or links to commercial porn sites.
- We do not allow illegal sexual content, including image, video or textual content that encourages, for example, rape, incest, bestiality, or necrophilia.
- Do not publish or distribute private nude, sexually explicit, or non-explicit intimate and sexual images or videos without the subject’s consent. If someone has posted a private nude, sexually explicit, or non-explicit intimate and sexual image or video of you, please report it to us here.
Harassment, bullying, and threats
Do not engage in harassing, bullying, or threatening behavior, and do not incite others to engage in these activities. Anyone using our service to single someone out for malicious abuse, to threaten someone with serious harm, to sexualize a person in an unwanted way, or to harass in other ways may have the offending content removed or be permanently banned from using the service. In emergency situations, we may escalate imminent threats of serious harm to law enforcement. Keep in mind that online harassment is also illegal in many places and can have serious offline consequences for both the harasser and the victim.
Violence
Speak your mind without threatening others. This means that you can publish a disagreement you may have with another person's ideas, but do not threaten to cause serious physical injury or death to that person, or rally support to physically harm others. In most cases, we find that disputes or disagreements are best worked out by the parties directly involved and not by us. However, in cases where there is a serious and imminent physical threat of injury or death, we may take action on the content.
It's not okay to post violent or gory content that's primarily intended to be shocking, sensational, or gratuitous. If posting graphic content in a news, documentary, scientific, or artistic context, please be mindful to provide enough information to help people understand what's going on. In some cases, content may be so violent or shocking that no amount of context will allow that content to remain on our platforms. Lastly, don't encourage others to commit specific acts of violence.
Impersonation and misrepresentation of identity
Do not impersonate a person or organization or misrepresent yourself.
This includes impersonating any person or organizations you don’t represent; providing misleading information about a user/site’s identity, qualifications, ownership, purpose, products, services, or business; or falsely implying affiliation with, or endorsement by, another individual or organization.
This also includes content or accounts misrepresenting or concealing their ownership or primary purpose such as misrepresenting or intentionally concealing your country of origin or other material details about yourself when directing content about politics, social issues, or matters of public concern to users in a country other than your own. We do allow parody, satire, and the use of pseudonyms or pen names – just avoid content that is likely to mislead your audience about your true identity.
Misleading content
Do not distribute content that deceives, misleads, or confuses users. This includes:
Misleading content related to civic and democratic processes: content that is demonstrably false and could significantly undermine participation or trust in civic or democratic processes. This includes information about public voting procedures, political candidate eligibility based on age / birthplace, election results, or census participation that contradicts official government records. It also includes incorrect claims that a political figure or government official has died, been involved in an accident, or is suffering from a sudden serious illness.
Misleading content related to harmful conspiracy theories: content that promotes or lends credibility to beliefs that individuals or groups are systematically committing acts that cause widespread harm. This content is contradicted by substantial evidence and has resulted in or incites violence.
Misleading content related to harmful health practices: misleading health or medical content that promotes or encourages others to engage in practices that may lead to serious physical or emotional harm to individuals, or serious public health harm.
Manipulated media: media that has been technically manipulated or doctored in a way that misleads users and may pose a serious risk of egregious harm.
Misleading content may be allowed in an educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic context, but please be mindful to provide enough information to help people understand this context. In some cases, no amount of context will allow this content to remain on our platforms.
Regulated goods and services
Do not use Sites to sell or facilitate the sale of regulated goods and services such as alcohol, gambling, pharmaceuticals and unapproved supplements, tobacco, fireworks, weapons, or health/medical devices.
