Add text, images, or links

After you create a web page, you can add or edit text, images, or links.

This article is for the classic Google Sites (no “Publish” button at the top right). Get help for the new Google Sites.

Edit the page text

  1. Open your website in Google Sites.
  2. Go to the page you want to edit.
  3. Click Edit Edit.
  4. Click where you want to add text in your page body or title.
    • To add bold, italics, or a list, select the text and click an option in the toolbar
    • To pick styles like headers, code samples or block quotes, select text and click Format.
  5. Type your text or add other page elements.
  6. Once you’re done editing the page, go to the top right corner and click Save.

Add images, links, text boxes or tables

While you’re editing your page, you can also:

Add text boxes

To pick the number and layout of the text boxes on your page, go to the menu bar and click Layout.

Add a link

You can add links to other pages or other parts of the page to your site’s text.

  1. Select the text you want to change.
  2. In the toolbar, click Link Link.
  3. Follow the instructions in the window.
  4. Click OK.

Note: If the site you're linking to isn't public, the original URL won’t show.

Add images

You can insert images from the web or uploaded from your computer to your page.

  1. Click where you want to insert the image.
  2. In the toolbar, click Insert and then Image.
  3. Follow the instructions in the window.
Add a table

You can put a table on your page and resize rows and columns as necessary.

  1. Click where you want to insert the image.
  2. In the toolbar, click Table and then Insert table.
  3. Click the number of rows and columns you want in the table.

Resize your table

To resize a row or column, click a cell and drag one of the white boxes on the cell border.

Add a table of contents

You can insert a table of contents that links to text on the page formatted in one of the "Header" styles.

  1. Click where you want to insert the table of contents.
  2. In the toolbar, click Insert and then Table of contents.
  3. You can pick how many header levels are included on your table of contents.
  4. Click Save.
