Change your site’s homepage and search

You can change your site’s homepage and how visitors search on your site.

This article is for the classic Google Sites (no “Publish” button at the top right). Get help for the new Google Sites.

Change your homepage

You can change the page that visitors see when they visit your site’s URL.

  1. Open your website in Google Sites.
  2. Click More options More actions and then Manage site.
  3. Click General.
  4. Under "Landing page," click Change.
  5. Pick the page you want to use and then click Ok.
  6. Click Save.

Change your site’s search

You can turn on searches for your site, allow visitors to search other sites, or include custom and third-party search options.

  1. Open your website in Google Sites.
  2. Click More options More actions and then Manage site.
  3. Click General.
  4. Under "Enable and configure search options," click Configure search.
  5. Under "General," check the box next to each option you want users to be able to search.
    • If you turn on more than one search option, next to "By default search," click the drop-down menu to pick a default search engine.
    • If you want to add a Google Custom Search Engine, Google Search Appliance, or third-party search engine, click Advanced and then Add provider and then follow the instructions in the window.
  6. Click Ok.
  7. Click Save.
