Change the parameter handling option in accounts without shared templates

Note: This article doesn't apply to social and engine track accounts, or search accounts that support shared templates. In these accounts, clickserver URLs always contain the final URL (including any static and dynamic parameters defined in the URL or in a URL template), plus the URL parameters Search Ads 360 needs to track activity.

Make sure landing page URLs are in the correct format

Before you change the option for handling URL parameters in clickserver URLs, make sure your keyword landing page URLs are in the correct format for Search Ads 360. Once you change parameter handling, Search Ads 360 will re-traffic all clickserver URLs, except for keywords in landing page tests. Any keywords with URL errors will not be re-trafficked.

Valid landing page format in Search Ads 360

Before you select a landing page URL option, it’s helpful to understand how a landing page should look in Search Ads 360. A valid landing page:

  • Should start with https:// or http://.

  • The first char of the domain name should start with char from set [A-Za-z0-9{] (note the addition of '{' in the existing rule)

  • Should have matching curly braces ('{', '}'); nested curly braces is acceptable.

  • Should not contain any Search Ads 360-specific reserved parameters (except {ifmobile:ds_dest_url=...} in the context of the suggested device specific landing page solution).

  • Should only contain US-ASCII characters.

  • Should not contain any spaces. Please replace any spaces with %20.

Errors if it’s not a valid landing page:

  • If you try to provide invalid landing pages in the UI or via upload, Search Ads 360 will display an error for invalid keywords.

  • Syncing will mark a sync error on invalid keywords and will keep the corresponding keywords untouched otherwise.

To change parameter handling for clickserver URLs:

  1. Start editing an engine account.

  2. Select an option in the Landing page URL details section.

View descriptions and examples of Landing page URL options.

  3. Click Save.
