Use a bulksheet to create and edit app extensions

The overall process for creating and editing app extensions is:

  1. Download an editable bulksheet that contains any existing app extensions you want to edit, along with all of the columns you need to create new app extensions.

  2. In the downloaded bulksheet, edit existing app extensions or create new ones.

  3. Upload the bulksheet.

  4. Optionally apply app extensions directly to campaigns or ad groups.

Note that if you want to apply app extensions directly to campaigns or ad groups (instead of creating account-level extensions that are inherited by default), you’ll need to create app extensions in a separate upload before you can apply them.

Download a bulksheet with app extensions

Download a bulksheet that contains any existing app extensions you want to edit, along with all of the columns you need to create new app extensions:

  1. Navigate to a Google Ads engine account.

Steps for navigating to an engine account
    1. In the left navigation panel, click All accounts.
What if the left navigation pane isn't visible?

    2. Click the navigation bar to display navigation options.

    3. In the "Agency" list, click on the agency that contains the advertiser. You can search for an agency by name or scroll through the list.

    4. In the "Advertiser" list, click on the advertiser that contains the engine account.

    5. In the "Account" list, click on the engine account.

    6. Click Apply or press the Enter key.

Search Ads 360 displays the engine account page.

  2. Click the Extensions▼ tab and select App extensions.

  3. To download specific app extensions, do either of the following:

    1. Select the checkbox next to each app extension you want to download.

    2. Filter the reporting table so that it contains only the app extensions you want to download.

  4. Click the download icon , which appears above the reporting table.

  5. Keep the default settings:

    1. Columns: Editable columns

    2. Include types: App Installs

  6. Click Download.

Search Ads 360 generates the report and either downloads the file to your browser's download directory or sends an email, depending on the delivery option you selected.

If you selected to download a report and the report is very large, it may take a while for Search Ads 360 to generate the report. You can still use Search Ads 360 while the report is generating. A status bar indicates the progress of the report generation. When it's complete, a Download link appears in the status bar. Click the link to download the report.

Edit existing app extensions

To edit existing app extensions that are in the downloaded file, change the settings in any of the following columns:

  • Action : Change non-editable to edit.

  • App text: The link text that appears in the ad.

  • Account level extension: Enter On if you want campaigns and ad groups to inherit this extension by default. Otherwise, enter Off.

  • App URL: Enter the URL of your app in the app store.
    Example: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.android.myapp

  • App tracking URL template: Overrides any higher level URL template and creates a tracking URL specifically for this extension. Be sure to include one of the following placeholders for the app's URL:
    {lpurl}, {escapedlpurl}, or {unescapedlpurl}.

    For example:
    https://tracker.com?url={escapedlpurl}

URL parameters that appear in this field may not be sent to the landing page, depending on how you define them. The recommended practice is use the Final URL Suffix to specify URL parameters that your landing pages require.

For Android apps, Google Ads does not allow third-party tracking URLs or other tracking parameters for app extensions.

  • Extension mobile preference: Enter All to target both phones and tablets.
Enter Mobile to target phones and exclude tablets.

  • Extension start date: Optionally specify the date you want the extension to start appearing in ads. If you don't specify a start date, the extension can appear as soon as you apply it to the account or specific campaigns and ad groups.

    Use the following format: YYYY-MM-DD.

  • Extension end date: Optionally specify the date you want the extension to stop appearing in ads. If you don't specify an end date, the extension never expires and can appear indefinitely.

    Use the following format: YYYY-MM-DD.

  • Custom parameters: Defines custom parameters that you can add to the ad's Final URL Suffix or URL template. If custom parameters defined at a higher level use the same name as the ones defined here, the parameter values here override the values from the higher level. Learn more about using bulksheets to create custom parameters.

Create new app extensions

To create a new app extension, do the following in the downloaded file:

  1. Copy the row that defines an existing app extension. Then paste the row into the bulksheet.

  2. In the Action column, change edit to create.

  3. If you're copying from one engine account and uploading to a different engine account, change the ID in the Account ID column to the ID of the new engine account.

  4. Change the settings in any of the following columns:

    • App ID: For Android apps, enter the package name of your app. Example: com.example.android.myapp
For iOS apps, enter the ID assigned by the Apple App Store. Example: 123457890

    • App store: Enter Google Play Store or Apple App Store

    • App text: The link text that appears in the ad.

    • Account level extension: Enter On if you want campaigns and ad groups to inherit this extension by default. Otherwise, enter Off.

      For example:
      https://tracker.com?url={escapedlpurl}

  5. You don't need to remove the existing values from the Extension ID column. When you specify create as the action, Search Ads 360 automatically generates a new app extension when you upload the bulksheet.

Upload the bulksheet

After you've edited or created new app extensions in the bulksheet, upload the bulksheet to Search Ads 360.
