Create and edit app extensions

If you've already created app extensions in Google Ads, you can sync them into Search Ads 360. If you applied the extensions to campaigns or ad groups in Google Ads, you'll see them applied to the same campaigns and ad groups in Search Ads 360.

Create an app extension from Search Ads 360

  1. Navigate to a Google Ads engine account.

Steps for navigating to an engine account
    1. In the left navigation panel, click All accounts.
What if the left navigation pane isn't visible?

    2. Click the navigation bar to display navigation options.

    3. In the "Agency" list, click on the agency that contains the advertiser. You can search for an agency by name or scroll through the list.

    4. In the "Advertiser" list, click on the advertiser that contains the engine account.

    5. In the "Account" list, click on the engine account.

    6. Click Apply or press the Enter key.

Search Ads 360 displays the engine account page.

  2. Click the Extensions▼ tab and select App extensions.

  3. Click the + App extension button, which appears above the reporting table.

  4. Enter properties for the app extension.

  5. (Optional) Apply the app extension as follows:

    • To apply the extension to all campaigns and ad groups by default, select the Apply to account checkbox.
All campaigns and ad groups that don't already specify their own app-extension settings will inherit the account-level extension.

    • To apply the extension only to specific campaigns or ad groups, don't select the Apply to account checkbox. Instead, select the campaigns and ad groups in Apply to campaigns or Apply to ad groups lists.

Note that the campaigns and ad groups you select will no longer inherit account-level extensions. Instead, they'll only display the ad extensions that you apply directly to the campaign or ad group.

Tip: Ad groups inherit app extensions from campaigns by default, so you only need to apply app extensions directly to an ad group if you haven't specified them for a campaign, or if you want to override the inheritance.

  6. Click Save.

The new app extension appears in the reporting table.

App extension properties

  • Mobile OS: Specify the type of operating system your app runs on. The extension will only appear on devices that use the same type of operating system as your app.

If you've created an app for both Android and iOS operating systems, create two separate extensions.

  • Package name: For Android apps, enter the package name of your app. Example: com.example.android.myapp
You can find the package name in the URL for the app in Google Play (for example, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.android.myapp).

For iOS apps, enter the ID assigned by the Apple App Store. Example: 123457890
You can find the ID in the URL of the app within the Apple App Store (for example, http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/example-app-name/id#########).

  • Link text: Enter the link text that appears in the ad.

  • Destination URL: Enter the URL of your app in the app store.
    Example: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.android.myapp

  • URL Template: Enter a Search Ads 360 URL template, which can contain a third-party tracking URL to use when customers click the app extension. Learn more about Search Ads 360 URL templates.

  • Exclude tablets: Select this checkbox to display the extension only on mobile phones, even if your app can also be installed on tablets.

  • Apply to account: All campaigns and ad groups that don't already specify their own app-extension settings will inherit the account-level extension.

To apply the extension only to specific campaigns or ad groups, don't select the Apply to account.

  • Start Date: Optionally specify the date you want the extension to start appearing in ads. If you don't specify a start date, the extension can appear as soon as you apply it to the account or specific campaigns and ad groups.

Note: To schedule the app extension to appear on specific days of the week or at times of the day, edit the app extension in Google Ads. Search Ads 360 can only set start dates and end dates for app extensions. The schedule is a separate setting than the start and end dates, so if changing the start and end date in Search Ads 360 won't affect the day-of-week or time-of-day schedule you set in Google Ads.

  • End Date: Optionally specify the date you want the extension to stop appearing in ads. If you don't specify an end date, the extension never expires and can appear indefinitely.

Edit app extensions from Search Ads 360

Tip: Changes to an app extension do not trigger Google Ads to recreate the ads that use the extension. (If you change an ad, Google Ads recreates the ad and resets all metrics for the ad.)

  1. Navigate to a Google Ads engine account.

  2. Click the Extensions▼ tab and select App extensions.

  3. Select the checkbox next to an app extension and click the Edit button, which appears above the reporting table.

  4. Update the app extension properties.

  5. Click Save.

Search Ads 360 traffics the changes to Google Ads.
