Set up smart home devices with your Screenwise Router

Adult panelists can allow smart home devices to be included in the household’s panel participation.

Detecting smart home devices

With an existing Screenwise Router

  • When you install a new smart home device, make sure that it’s connected to your Screenwise Router Wi-Fi network.
  • When we find a new smart home device on your home network, we’ll send a notification to all adult panelists to let the household know when metering will start and review the new devices.
    • You can add a nickname for a smart device. This changes only your Screenwise Meter account and not the nickname in the device’s settings.
    • If you added a nickname in the smart device’s settings, it might show in your Screenwise Meter account. As you update this nickname in your device's settings, this should automatically become updated in your Screenwise Meter account.
  • Adult panelists can always turn off metering for any smart home device.

With a new Screenwise Router

If you had smart home devices connected to your personal router before you got your Screenwise Router, follow these steps:

  1. Set up the Screenwise Router and disconnect your personal router.
  2. Change the Wi-Fi of your smart home devices to the Screenwise Router.

Allow metering for smart home devices

  • Access your Screenwise Meter account to see and manage your smart home devices.
  • Screenwise Meters can detect and meter smart speakers and smart displays from these manufacturers:
    • Amazon, like Echo and Echo Show
    • Apple, like HomePod
    • Facebook, like Portal
    • Google, like Home, Nest Mini, Nest Hub
  • Adult panelists can allow smart home devices to be included in the household’s panel participation.
  • Adult panelists can turn off metering for individual devices even if smart home devices have been included in panel participation.

Don't allow metering for smart home devices

  • If you don’t allow smart devices to be included in your panel participation, metering will be turned off and those devices won’t be included in the program.
  • The Screenwise Router will still detect smart devices for diagnostics, and to have a complete picture of your smart devices in case you decide to allow smart devices to be included in panel participation in the future.

Information collected

  • If you choose to allow metering of your household smart home devices, we’ll collect this info:
    • Kind of device
    • Device’s internet activity
    • How often the device is used
  • No audio or video is collected from any smart home device.
  • For more about how info collected by the Screenwise Router is used, see the Google Panel Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions.
