When you opt in to use Smart Assistant metering on a mobile phone or smart home device, data from your query may be collected.
If you’re eligible to participate, you will receive a notification with details about the program. The notification includes the option to opt in. An adult member of the household can manage participation from the Screenwise Meter account.
Allow info collection from Smart Assistant
If you choose to allow metering of your Smart Assistant devices, we collect the text of queries like “What’s the weather today?”, “Send a message to [person]”, and the date, time, and other data associated with the query.
Important:
- Data is only collected from panelists after they opt in to the program.
- The text of assistant commands (such as “set a timer” or “send [name] a message”) are collected from your device and sent to Google through this program monthly.
- No audio or video is collected. Only query transcripts are collected.
- Query responses from the assistant aren’t collected.
- To ensure your data is collected, please enable voice match as this is used by some devices to identify the Google account. Also confirm that the “Web and App Activity” setting is enabled in My Google Activity.
- Data collection can be paused from your Screenwise Meter account by going to the Smart Assistants page. You can also set your device(s) to Guest Mode to stop data collection.
Things to remember
- If you’ve opted in, a monthly reminder is sent via email with details about the program and how to opt out.
- Google Assistant data is only collected if you’re logged into your Google account. To review and manage data collected from you, go to My Google Activity.
- For all other smart assistants, data is only collected if historical data is accessed through a logged-in and metered Android device.
