Connect external sensors via bluetooth

Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard that uses radio waves to exchange data over short distances from fixed and mobile devices. The bluetooth tool lets you explore and experiment with external sensors.
Pair external sensors to Science Journal:

Connect your Arduino board

Science Journal works with the Arduino 101 and the Blend Board. Additional Arduino support will be added in the future.

  1. Turn on bluetooth for your device.
  2. Make sure your Arduino is loaded with the Science Journal Arduino Firmware.
  3. Connect a sensor to input pin 0 on your Arduino board.
  4. Open the Science Journal app .
  5. Open the experiment you’re working on by tapping the experiment card in the library or create a new experiment by tapping the Plus button  at the bottom right of your screen.
  6. Tap the Sensor  tab.
  7. Tap Settings  at the right of the sensors toolbar.
  8. Scroll down all the way to the bottom.
  9. Find your sensor device under Available Devices.
  10. Tap the ID of the Arduino device you would like to connect to.
  11. The Arduino sensor will now be added to your sensors list.

Connect your Vernier sensor

Currently, Vernier Go Wireless® devices can only be connected to the Android version of Science Journal.

  1. Turn on bluetooth for your device.
  2. Make sure the Vernier Graphical Analysis Android app is downloaded on your device.
  3. Open the Science Journal app .
  4. Open the experiment you’re working on by tapping the experiment card in the library or create a new experiment by tapping the Plus button  at the bottom right of your screen.
  5. Tap the Sensor  tab.
  6. Tap Settings  at the right of the sensors toolbar.
  7. Scroll down all the way to the bottom.
  8. Find your sensor device under Available Devices.
  9. Tap the ID of the Arduino device you would like to connect to.
  10. The Arduino sensor will now be added to your sensors list.
