Override an automatically set bid or budget for 24 hours

Applies to Search Ads 360 portfolio bid strategies and budget bid strategies
Note: Bids can only be adjusted for intraday bid strategies, in the supported bid strategy types. Budgets can be overridden for both intraday and auction-time bidding bid strategies.

A Search Ads 360 bid strategy automates your max.CPC, and a budget bid strategy available in a performance plan adjusts campaign budgets to achieve a spend target, you may still need manual control. You can manually override these settings to immediately adjust bids or budgets for competitive, high-value biddable items or campaigns.

Keyword Bids (Max. CPC):

  • Intraday: Override is respected for up to 24 hours.
  • Auction-Time Bidding (ATB): Not supported.

Budgets (ATB & Intraday BBS):

  • Can be overridden for up to 24 hours.
  • Override processes at the next scheduled budget setting (early mornings, sub-manager timezone).
  • You must make any changes to override settings directly in Search Ads 360, otherwise they may be overridden the next time the bid strategy processing changes. This rule applies to all entities, not just bid strategies or keywords.
  • Changing the default CPC or max. CPC at the ad group level doesn't override the bid strategy if keyword maximum CPC bids are set. It does not set maximum CPC for ad groups.

Note: We don't recommend manually setting a bid or budget when a bid or budget strategy is managing spend in a plan.

You can’t override the automated bidding system if Google Ads auction-time bidding and Microsoft Advertising auction-time bidding is turned on in a Search Ads 360 bid or budget bid strategy.


Steps to override a Search Ads 360 bid strategy's bid or budget

You can use any of the following methods to override the max. CPC for a biddable item

  • Edit the max. CPC for multiple items
  • Apply a rule to edit the max. CPC (and set schedule)

Overrides to the max. CPC can only be done in the Search Ads 360 user interface. You can't override the max. CPC set by a bid strategy in the user interface of an advertising platform.

Edit the maximum CPC for one or more items

  1. Sign in to your Search Ads 360 account.
  2. Navigate to a client account.
  3. Select Product groups, Ad groups, or Keywords in the main menu on the left.
  4. Select the checkboxes next to each item that you want to edit.
  5. In the toolbar above the statistics table, select Edit, and then select Change bids or Change max. CPC bids.
  6. Under “Change max. CPC bids”, you can select “Set new bids”, “Increase bids” or “Decrease bids”.
  7. Enter an “Amount”, a percentage, or select an amount or percentage from a custom column.
  8. Select Apply.

In Google Ads campaigns, you also have the option to raise your bid to place your ads on the first page or at the top of the page in the search results. The bid strategy or budget bid strategy won’t change a max. CPC for the selected item for 24 hours.

Override the campaign budget set by a budget bid strategy

  1. Sign in to your Search Ads 360 account.
  2. In the main menu, select Campaigns.
  3. Optional: Add the Bid strategy column to the statistics table.
  4. In the “Budget” column, select the pencil icon Edit to edit a campaign’s daily budget.
  5. Enter an amount.
  6. Select Save.

The budget bid strategy won't update the daily campaign budget until the next daily adjustment, which usually occurs in the early morning hours.
