Validate and test Conversions with Cart Data

Once you set up Conversions with Cart Data reporting, we recommend that you check your cart data is being submitted correctly. You can submit a fake purchase order, use Google Tag Manager, or build a report in Report Editor to validate your setup.

Preview data in Google Tag Manager 

If you’re using Google Tag Manager (GTM), you can use the preview mode to validate the parameters. Learn more about how to Preview and debug containers.

Submit a test order

  1. In your Google Chrome Web Browser, click the Chrome menu at the top right corner to open Chrome Developer Tools.
  2. Select More Tools > Developer Tools.
  3. In the "Developer Tools" pane, select Network.
  4. Submit your test order in the Google Chrome web browser.
  5. Search for the request that contains your conversion (search for “/conversion”). The query string parameters should include the cart data parameters.
  6.  Use test orders with multiple items in a cart, different quantities, etc. to make sure your tags are working correctly. 

Instructions to build a test report

  1. Create a new report in Report Editor.
  2. Select Table as the report type.
  3. In the column picker, click Shopping attributes to expand the category.
  4. Drag the Item ID Sold dimension to the “Row” section.
  5. Click Conversions to expand the category.
  6. Click Conversions with Cart Data to expand the category.
  7. Drag any of the compatible metrics to the “Columns” section, such as “Units sold” or “Cross-sell units sold”.
  8. Check if there is data for the Item ID Sold. If the data is accurate, then the cart data parameters are being submitted.
