YouTube Masthead Close Button component

A YouTube Masthead Close Button is mandatory on all YouTube mastheads. To make it simpler to add a close button to mastheads created in Google Web Designer, install the YouTube Masthead Close Button component.

Don't have Google Web Designer? Download it here. If you have a previous version installed, it will automatically be updated to the latest version. If you use a different HTML editor, use the Masthead Close Button custom element instead.

What does the YouTube Masthead Close Button do?

The YouTube Masthead Close Button has one main function: to collapse 100% of the masthead on the YouTube homepage. When a user clicks "Close Ad X," the ad disappears, page content pushes up, and a "Show Ad" button remains. When a user clicks "Show Ad," the ad reappears, the page content pushes down again, and the component displays a "Close Ad X" button again on the masthead.

The YouTube Close Button component ensures that the masthead works directly with the code on the YouTube homepage to push down and retract the YouTube page content.

Install the component

  1. Download the YouTube Masthead Close Button component. (You don't need to unzip the file).
  2. In Google Web Designer, click the Image of add new component button in Google Web Designer button at the bottom of the Components panel.
  3. Select the .zip file you downloaded and click "Open".
