Get started with Read Along

If you’re new to Read Along, this article shows you around the app and helps you complete common tasks.

Download the Read Along app

1. Open the Google Play Store app .
2. At the top, search for "Read Along."
   • Tip: On your device's browser, you can enter g.co/readalong.
3. Select the Read Along app.
4. Tap Install.

Set up Read Along as a parent or guardian

To set up the app for the first time, you must complete the following steps:

1. Open the Read Along app .
2. From the list of languages, select the language you prefer.
3. Review "Important information for parents."
4. To accept the privacy settings, tap Got it.
5. To allow Read Along to record audio, tap Allow.
6. To learn how to read a story, follow the guide.

Create your first profile

1. Open the Read Along app .
2. Tap a story in the library.
3. Read the story.
4. After you read the story, Diya helps you create your profile:
   1. Tap Open camera .
   2. To allow Read Along to take pictures and record video, tap Allow.
   3. To take a photo, tap Camera .
   4. To confirm, tap the Check mark .

Tip: To edit your profile or create a new one, go to Create or edit a profile.

Explore the Library page

The Library page is where you find stories to read.

To open the Library page:

1. Open the Read Along app .
2. Select your profile. The Library page opens by default.
3. If you’re on another tab, to return to the Library page, at the bottom-left corner, tap Library.

Overview of the Library page

On the Library page, you can:

• Download stories to read offline.
  • Tip: Stories are organized by themes and difficulty levels.
• Read stories you download.
• Play games.

Explore the Prizes page

To open the Prizes page:

1. Open the Read Along app .
2. Select your profile.
3. At the bottom of the page, tap Prizes.

On the Prizes page, you can find your prices.

• To find out what goals must be met to earn a prize, tap any prize icon.

Explore the Activity page as a student

The Activity page is where students or parents can find their progress.

To open the Activity page:

1. Open the Read Along app .
2. Select your profile.
3. At the bottom-right corner, tap Activity.

Overview of the Activity page

On the Activity page, you can:

• Review your daily goal completion.
• Review your weekly activity.
• Find your reading groups.
  • Tip: If you’re enrolled in more than one reading group, you can scroll through your groups by swiping side to side.
• Review completed stories.
• Know your lifetime stats, such as total minutes read and stories completed.

Explore the Activity page as a teacher

The Activity page is where you can review your students’ progress in a specific reading group.

To open the Activity page:

1. Open the Read Along app .
2. At the bottom-right corner, tap Activity.

On the Activity page, you can:

• Switch between reading groups.
• Find students who are active and inactive every week.
• Find stories that are popular with students every week.
• Find students who read and play games.
• Find each student’s words-per-minute reading speed.
• Access settings for a reading group.
• Invite students to a reading group.
