Set up Google Workspace billing

To verify your domain ownership, see Verify your domain for Google Workspace instead. If you added your billing information when signing up for Google Workspace, you can skip this page. Your paid subscription begins automatically when your trial ends.

To use Google Workspace beyond your free trial period, set up billing for your subscription to start making automatic monthly payments. To learn more, go to About your free Google Workspace trial.

Set up billing during your free trial

Free trials are not available for upgrades from G Suite legacy free edition.

  • You won't be charged until your trial is over.
  • Your service will continue uninterrupted after your free trial ends.
  • If you switch editions during your free trial, any unused days apply to your new subscription. For example, if you switch editions on the 10th day of your free trial, the last 4 days of the free trial apply to the new subscription.
  • You can cancel your subscription during your trial without making any payments.

Step 1: Start billing setup

Only the primary super administrator who created the account can set up billing.

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Billingand thenSubscriptions.
  3. At the top, click Start Paid Service or Set Up Billing.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up billing.

Country and currency (can't change later)

For available currencies and payment methods, see Payment options in my country.

The country and currency you choose determine what payment methods you can use to pay for your subscription.

Important: You can't change the billing country or currency you choose here after you complete and exit billing setup.

Payment plan
  • Flexible Plan—You’re billed monthly for each user account. You can add and remove users at any time and pay only for accounts used that month. You can cancel service at any time to stop all payments. Learn more about the Flexible Plan.
  • Annual Plan—You commit to paying for the number of licenses you need, and you’re billed monthly. You can purchase more licenses at any time. However, you can’t reduce licenses and lower your monthly payments until it’s time to renew your annual contract. Learn more about the Annual Plan.

Annual Plan availability depends on your subscription and how you signed up for your service. For details, see Annual Plan.

Account type (can't change later)

Specify whether your Google Workspace service is for individual or business use. This information needs to be accurate for tax and identity verification. Choose the account type that best fits how you plan to use your payments profile.

Important: You can’t change your Business or Individual setting after you complete and exit the billing setup.

  • Individual

    • You're using your account for your own personal payments.
    • If you register your payments profile as an individual, then only you can manage the profile. You won't be able to add or remove users, or change permissions on the profile.
  • Business

    • You're paying on behalf of a business, organization, partnership, or educational institution.
    • You’re engaged in economic activity; you expect to receive revenue from your activities. Business account customers include corporations, affiliates, sole traders, self-employed merchants, and partnerships.
    • A business profile allows you to add other users to the payments profile you manage, so that more than one person can access or manage a payments profile.

Payment method

Enter a payment method we can charge for your monthly payment. Google accepts major credit cards in over 230 countries, including Visa®, Mastercard®, and American Express®. Depending on your country and currency, we may also be able to withdraw payments directly from your bank account (also called direct debit).

For available currencies and payment methods, see Payment options in my country.

Can I switch payment plans later?

Annual/Fixed-Term to Flexible Plan

You can switch from the Annual/Fixed-Term to the Flexible Plan:

  • During your free trial
  • When it’s time to renew your subscription

Flexible to Annual/Fixed-Term Plan

You can switch from the Flexible Plan to the Annual/Fixed-Term Plan anytime in the Admin console. When you switch, you must make an annual upfront payment.

For details, go to Manage your payment plans & renewals.

When do automatic payments occur?
  • Google Workspace, Essentials, and Cloud Identity Premium—After your free trial ends and your paid subscription starts, we charge your payment method at the beginning of the following month. If your paid service starts in May, for example, we charge you at the beginning of June. After that, charges continue automatically at the beginning of each month.
  • Domain registration—We start charging your payment method at the time of purchase. If you set up your domain for automatic renewal, we renew your domain 7 days before the annual renewal date and charge your payment method at the beginning of the following month.

How long until my bank account can be debited?

Before we can debit your new bank account, we need to verify that it’s yours. How long this takes depends on your location. If you’re in:

  • The U.K.—It takes about 2 days for us to verify your account. No action is required on your part.
  • The U.S. and Europe, outside the U.K.—You must verify the account before we can begin payments. You can do this by making a test deposit. This process can take up to 10 days, but it often happens much sooner. See Verify bank account with test deposit.
You can tell whether Google is still verifying your bank account if you see a Verification in progress or Mandate pending message on your Payments page. If you're setting up billing for the first time, your paid service won't begin until we verify your account.
Can I pay in advance?
Yes. You can pay ahead for your subscription instead of making monthly payments by adding credit to your account. For details, see Make a manual payment or pay early.
How many users can I add, and how much will they cost?

For questions about adding users and the associated costs, go to the Google Workspace Setup FAQ.
