H5 Games Ads (beta) policies

The following policies are solely for the use of publishers participating in the H5 Games using the Ad Placement API beta.

Full screen ads

Full screen ads may be placed within H5 Games using the Ad Placement API via the adBreak() function. They should be displayed at natural transition points in the flow of an application, such as between activities or during the pause between levels in a game. These ad placements must comply with the following requirements:

Publishers aren't allowed to use full-screen ads:

  • where the ad might be confused with the normal operation of the application or hosting page, for example:
    • ads that appear before an application or a hosting page has opened – where the user may believe that clicking on the ad is part of the startup sequence of the app or hosting page
    • ads that appear after the application has exited or the hosting page has closed
  • that are triggered after a user closes another full screen ad.
  • that appear unexpectedly while a user is viewing the application or web page’s content.
  • that trigger after every user interaction.
  • that interrupt the user during periods of continuous game play and heavy user interaction.
  • that interfere with user navigation and interaction

Publishers of H5 Games may only use full-screen ads:

  • that appear between screens of an application or content pages,
  • at transitions between a games catalogue and the individual games
  • that were created using

Rewarded ads

Rewarded ad units allow you to reward users with in-app items for interacting with video ads, playable ads and surveys. These ads may only be served after a user explicitly chooses to view them. This puts the user in control of their advertising experience.

The rewards provided by rewarded ads must not have value outside of the relationship between the publisher and the user, and in particular must not have monetary value or be saleable or exchangeable for goods or services of any kind.

Policies for ads that offer rewards

These policies apply to participants in the H5 Games using Ad Placement API beta wherever and whenever ads that offer rewards serve.

  • Rewards from rewarded ads are transacted solely between the publisher and the user. Google does not grant or verify any rewards.
  • Publishers may not ask others to click their ads or use deceptive implementation methods to obtain clicks. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • offering monetary compensation to users for viewing ads or performing searches, or
    • promising to raise money for third parties for such behaviour, or
    • placing misleading images next to individual ads.
  • Publishers may not encourage users to engage with rewarded ads using phrases that indicate that the ad engagement will help the publisher directly, such as 'support us' or similar language.
  • Rewarded ads must not be placed in user flows that offer monetary compensation or other incentives that can be converted into monetary compensation (including gift cards, discounts for physical goods or services and cryptocurrencies).
  • Each rewarded inventory ad must be offered individually.
  • Unavailable rewards: Publishers placing Google ads within rewarded inventory may not:
    • Offer a reward that cannot be redeemed, or
    • Fail to deliver the reward to the user upon completion of the required task.
  • Random rewards: Publishers placing Google ads within rewarded inventory may offer random rewards, as long as the probabilities of the different rewards are disclosed to the user.
  • Reward description requirements: Publishers placing Google ads within rewarded inventory must clearly and accurately disclose the following:
    • The required action (e.g. 'View this ad to receive 100 gold coins' or 'View this ad to receive a Sword of Slaying');
      • Icons may be used to describe the required action, but must make it clear that an advertising experience is present, ideally through the use of the word 'Ad' accompanying the icon.
    • The in-app reward for completion of the action (e.g. 'View ad to receive 100 gold coins'). Note that the reward must be redeemable from within the app where the rewarded ad was placed.
      • Icons may be used to describe the reward, as long as such icons are clear to users of the app.

Rewarded ad format specific policies

In addition to the common rewarded inventory policies, rewarded ads must also adhere to the following format-specific policies:

  • Rewarded ads may only be served after a user affirmatively opts to view a rewarded ad. Additionally, a user must opt to view each rewarded ad individually and cannot opt in to automatically see rewarded ads.
