How to collect search data in GA when using overlay layout of PSE?
0
Hello,

I use the overlay layout of the PSE and I'm trying to collect the search data in Google Analytics.

I connected the console also with GA and used "q" as parameter.

Unfortunately GA shows no data but the console counts a lot of requests.

What can I do?

Thanks a lot for your efforts in advance.

Hi Mathias,

As I understand from your message is that you want to integrate Google Analytics with your Programmable Search Engine to get advanced reporting.

You can create a Google Analytics account with the same email account as your Programmable Search Engine. Once you have created a GA profile and once Programmable Search Engine sees an GA profile with the same email account or any GA admin account, on the Programmable Search Engine control panel > Statistics & Logs > Google Analytics page you will see "Google Analytics Profile" (Drop down) and then you can configure the GA integration selecting the profile.

Make sure you have selected the correct Query Parameter in your GA configuration. In the Query Parameter input box, enter e.g. “q” (no quotes, by default) when your query parameter is q, as in http://example.com/search.php?q=hello+world:

You need to look into your implementation to identify the query parameter name which you are using and configure the Google Analytics accordingly. By default for PSE, its "q" (without quotes). Please configure the Query Parameter as "q" (without quotes) if you have not changed any 'q' settings for your PSE.

Once the Programmable Search Engine integration is done, you will need to add the Google Analytics tracking code on your website where you have implemented your Programmable Search Engine. The below document explains how to integrate, please review the document carefully. You will need to integrate yourself:

Please ensure that all steps listed in Google Analytics help article are configured to ensure Google PSE is tracked in your GA. Please note that it takes about 48 hours to see search queries and search data in Google Analytics after a successful integration.

Hello Deepak,

thanks for your detailed answer. I made it the way you mentioned.

My problem: I do not have a "landing page" like example.com/search.php?q=hello+world, because I use the overlay layout. The user stay's on the site when he starts the search, no redirect, no reload.

Please check: happycolorz.de

Do you know what I mean?

Thanks for your efforts
Best Mathias

Hi Mathias,

Looked into your implementation and confirm that your query parameter is set to 'q' by default.

Hi Deepak,

thanks for your feedback. Good to know, that the query parameter is correct.

But at google analytics I still can't see any data...

What can I do or what is wrong?

I integrated google analytics via google tag manager - but it should work, right?

Best and thanks

Hi Mathias,

Like to update that we are only limited to integration of Google Analytics with your Programmable Search Engine.

You can post your GA related queries in the GA forum:

As a pointer to address your query:
i. Please make sure you have integrated GA with your search engine correctly:
ii. Please make sure you have implemented the GA code on your website correctly:
iii. Please review the document to understand why why doesn't Statistics data match the Site Search data in Analytics:

Thanks
