Custom search has died, completely, Not moribund, but defunct, deceased, zero, zilch, nada.

<https://libcom.navalmarinearchive.com> has a thousand plus html pages, a valid robots.txt, a valid siteindex.xml.gz, and a valid "custom search" on the home page. Over the last three weeks, Google has scanned it, found odds and ends denied by robots.txt, we've corrected, but the custom search comes up with diddly, nothing, nada, zilch -- just advertizing for Google.

Three of us have spent two weeks rewriting xml, adding sitemap.txt, reading every "help page" we can find. We have a lot of experience (back to 1994) with webpages. They're all written to pass W3C html5 verification.

What is the problem with Google? (or with us?)

Any and all suggestions welcome (before I start installing solr, nutch, whatever and take Google out.)

Thanks -- Paul

Hi Deepak,
Thank you.  I do not know what you have done, but we are now getting some results (not too many, but at least a start) so "indexing" is maybe solved.  I apologize if I shouldn't post here, but this is where Google keeps sending me.

However, the display is awful.  We have a custom results page, which now gets "greyed out" and overwritten by some sort of Google pop-up.  Where on earth does our page get "gsc-control-wrapper-cse", etc etc from?  What can we do to have Google do what they used to do.  We write a div ... /div, and Google used to "fill it in" -- just plain vanilla results on our page.

Thanks -- Paul

Hi Paul,

No, I have not done anything.

Secondly, please review the documents below for implementing your Programmable Search Engine on your website which will address your query:

As for display of results is concerned, you can control things from search engine control panel > Look and Feel > Customize section.

Thanks
