Add Members to your search engine

You can add members for your search engine. Each member must have a valid Google Account.

There are two types of members: Owner and Administrator. Owners can view and edit almost any data associated with the search engine. Owners can also delete their search engines. Administrators can view and edit with limited access. They won't be able to:

  • Delete the search engine
  • Add or remove user accounts
  • Modify Ads settings

To add an owner:

  1. On the Programmable Search Engine home page, click the search engine name you want to add members.
  2. Scroll down the Overview page to the Members box.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Type the email address of the person you want to add. The email address must be associated with a valid Google Account, or it won't be verified. An email will be sent to the member inviting them to contribute to the search engine. [In order to access the Control Panel they must use the Google Account you added.]
  5. Choose Owner under Member role.
  6. Click Add.

To add an administrator:

  1. On the Programmable Search Engine home page, click the search engine name you want to add members.
  2. Scroll down the Overview page to the Members box.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Type the email address of the person you want to add. The email address must be associated with a valid Google Account, or it won't be verified. An email will be sent to the new members inviting them to contribute to the search engine. [In order to access the Control Panel they must use the verified Google Account you added.]
  5. Choose Administrator under Member role.
  6. Click Add. 

Before an added member can manage a search engine, the member will need to complete a verification step.

 To verify as an owner:

  1. Access the search engine you wish to help manage. This can be done from the My Search engines link in the verification email or from the Programmable Search Engine home page.
  2. Click the search engine name you would like to manage.
  3. Select Verify me.

Selecting Remove me instead will cause your account to be removed as an owner, and you will no longer be able to manage that search engine.

To verify as an administrator:

  1. Access the search engine you wish to help manage. This can be done from the My Search engines link in the verification email or from the Programmable Search Engine home page.
  2. Click the search engine name you would like to manage.
  3. Select Verify me.

Selecting Remove me instead will cause your account to be removed as an administrator, and you will no longer be able to manage that search engine.

 To stop a member from being able to manage your search engine, you will need to remove them. Removing a member doesn't remove any changes they made.

To remove an owner or an administrator:

  1. On the Programmable Search Engine home page, click the search engine you want to remove members.
  2. Scroll down the Overview page to Members box
  3. Select the member you want to remove, and click Delete.
  4. Click Yes when prompted to permanently delete selected member.
