How to Migrate from Google Message Continuity (GMC) to

Google announced the discontinuation and wind down of the Google Message Continuity (GMC) product on January 20, 2012 via the Official Google Blog. We are no longer offering Google Message Continuity for sale to new customers. Google will honor existing GMC contracts, and you may continue to use the GMC service for the duration of your contract. We will not be offering additional renewals, but we invite you to migrate to Google Apps as your primary messaging and collaboration platform.

Google thanks you for using the GMC service and we look forward to serving you on the Google Apps for Work platform in the future. Customers interested in migrating may do so via the process outlined below.

Important: Customers who do not transition to Google Apps for Work during the wind-down period will be subject to service termination at the culmination of their contract terms, per the contract agreement.

Get started with your migration

Migrating to Google Apps for Work is simple! How you proceed with the migration depends on how you purchased your GMC service:

If you purchased GMC directly from Google:
We invite you to submit a Google Apps for Work order via our Google Apps Reseller Partner: Excel Micro. To get started, please reach out to Excel Micro via this address: Be sure to include the following in your email:

  • A list of the services you are using (e.g., Google Message Security (GMS), Google Message Discovery (GMD), etc.)
  • Your contact information
  • The GMC domain(s) you wish to migrate
  • The number of users

If you purchased GMC via a Reseller:
Please contact your Reseller for details on completing the migration to Google Apps for Work. Please be ready to provide a complete list of the GMC domains you wish to migrate.

What is changing?

As of January 2012, we are no longer offering Google Message Continuity for sales to new customers. We encourage businesses with a need for increased reliability to consider Google Apps as their primary messaging and collaboration platform.

Why are these changes occurring?

In an effort to optimize the experience for our customers, we are prioritizing our resources and development efforts for Google Apps. This means a shifting of our engineering resources away from Google Message Continuity.

How long will customers be able to use the service?

Existing contracts will be honored until the end of the contract. Customers will be able to use the service until that time.

How can customers migrate to Google Apps?

There is a standard process to migrate from Google Message Continuity to Google Apps. Please reach out to your Google account manager for additional information.

What will happen to the data in my GMC service?

Per the terms in our contract, the data will be removed from Google's systems.

When will these changes be communicated?

We publicly announced this on the Official Google Blog on January 20th, 2012.
