Use circles on Google+

You can use circles to control who you share posts with. Add people to a circle, then share a collection or a post with that circle so that those people can see it.

You can add someone to a circle even if they don't follow you, so they'll be able to see posts that you share with the circle, but might not see those posts in their home stream.

When you add someone to a circle, they might receive a notification letting them know that you've added them to one of your circles. They can see anything that you share with the circle, including posts that you've shared with the circle before they were added. If that person adds you to their circles, posts that you've shared with them may appear on their home stream.

You can see people you have in your circles by choosing People in your Navigation menu.

The people and pages that you add to circles are publicly visible by default, but you can change who can see the people and pages that you add. Depending on your settings, information about the people or pages that you've added to circles may also appear in shared endorsements.

You can add someone to a circle or remove them from it at any time.

Create a circle

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google+ app Google Plus.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then People.
  3. Tap Following.
  4. Tap NEW CIRCLE.

Add someone to or remove them from a circle

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google+ app Google Plus.
  2. Open the profile that you want to add, move or remove.

Note: When you follow someone, they're put in your 'Following' circle.

Share to a circle

When you share a post, you can share to a specific circle. People may be able to see who else you've shared a post with.

Your circles

When you create a new circle, it is automatically added to 'Your circles'. If you don't want to share posts to all of your circles, you can choose which ones to share with.

To include one of your circles when you share to 'Your circles':

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google+ app Google Plus.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then People.
  3. Tap FOLLOWING.
  4. Open the circle that you want to add to or remove from 'Your circles'.
  5. Tap More More.
  6. Tap Circle settings.
  7. Tick the box next to 'Your circles'.
  8. In the top right, tap Save.

Delete a circle

You can delete circles on your computer and Android devices.

  4. Under 'Your circles', tap the circle that you want to delete.
  5. In the top right, tap More More and then Delete circle.
  6. Click or tap Delete or OK.

Choose which circles to share with

When you share on Google+, you can select the circles or people you want to share with, or you can use the 'Your circles' option to share with multiple circles at once.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google+ app Google Plus.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then People.
  3. Tap the circle that you want to include or exclude.
  4. In the top right, tap More More and then View circle members.
  5. In the top right, tap More More and then Edit circle.
  6. Turn 'Include when sharing with "Your circles''' on or off.
  7. In the top right, tap Save.

Notes:

  • By default, 'Your circles' includes all the circles that you've created. If there are circles that you'd prefer not to share with, you can remove them from the 'Your circles' group.
  • People in the circles that you’re following are still included in your extended circles.
  • Any time you share something with 'Your circles', it will be shared with the list of circles included in the 'Your circles' setting.

About extended circles

When you share something, you might notice an option to share with your extended circles. Your extended circles include people in your circles' circles. Posts shared with your extended circles will be visible on your Posts tab to people in your circles' circles.

For example, let's say Nora is in one of your circles and Jason is in one of Nora's circles. You don't know Jason and he's not in any of your circles. If Nora chooses to make Jason visible on her profile among the people in her circles, and you choose to share a post with your extended circles, that post could appear on Nora's home stream and be visible to Jason on the Posts tab of your profile.

You aren't able to see a complete list of the people included in your extended circles – it's a collection of people that's frequently changing.

Your extended circles may also be used to help generate suggestions of people who Google+ thinks you may know.
