Mute a person, page, or post

If you think you’re receiving too many notifications from a particular person, page, or post, you can mute them without affecting your other Google+ notifications settings.

Mute a person or page

When you mute people or pages, you won’t receive notifications about what they’ve been up to on Google+. You can still see their updates in your stream or if you go to their profile -- you just won’t be notified about, say, a new comment or a post.

To stop receiving notifications from a person or page, follow these steps:

Android app
  1. Open the Google+ app Google+ icon.
  2. Go to the profile or page you want to mute > touch the menu icon .
  3. Touch Mute > OK.

To unmute, follow the same steps, but select Unmute.

Computer
  1. Open Google+.
  2. Go to the profile or page you want to mute.
  3. Below the profile photo and info, click the drop-down arrow .
  4. Click Mute [person/page] > Mute.

To unmute, follow the steps above. Then select Unmute.

Mobile browser

You can’t mute a person or page on mobile web just yet. In the meantime, please use Google+ on a mobile app or computer.

iPhone/iPad app
  1. Open the Google+ app Google+ icon.
  2. Go to the profile or page you want to mute.
  3. Touch the gear icon .
  4. Touch Mute > Mute.

To unmute, follow the steps above. Then select Unmute.

Mute a post

You can choose to stop notifications about a post, and remove it from your stream. Follow these steps:

Android app
  1. Open the Google+ app Google+ icon.
  2. Touch the post you want to mute > touch the menu icon .
  3. Touch Mute > OK.

To unmute, follow the steps above, then select Unmute. Tip: To find a post after muting it, try searching for the post or viewing the author’s profile.

Computer
  1. Open Google+.
  2. Hover over the post you want to mute > click the arrow at the top of the post.
  3. Touch Mute post.

Mobile browser
  1. Open Google+.
  2. Touch the post that you want to mute.
  3. In the top right corner, touch the double arrow icon .
  4. Touch Mute > OK.

To unmute, follow the steps above, then select Unmute. Tip: To find a post after muting it, try searching for the post or viewing the author’s profile.

iPhone/iPad app
  1. Open the Google+ app Google+ icon.
  2. Touch the post you want to mute > touch the gear icon .
  3. Touch Mute post > Yes.

Important: You can change who can send you notifications and who can comment on your public posts. If you really want to limit your interaction with someone, consider blocking them. You can also report a violation of our content policies.

Did you “ignore” people awhile ago?

Even though the "ignore" action is no longer available, you can still view the list of people you've ignored in the past. Here’s how:

  1. On desktop, open Google+.
  2. In the top left corner, click the drop-down arrow  > click People.
  3. Go to Your circles tab > click the Actions menu > select View ignored.
