Mute a person, page, or post

If you think you’re receiving too many notifications from a particular person, page or post, you can mute them without changing your overall Google+ notifications settings.

Mute a person or page

On Android
  1. Open the Google+ app.
  2. Go to someone’s profile/page > touch menu icon/button > Mute > OK.
On iOS
  1. Open the Google+ app.
  2. Go to someone’s profile/page > touch  menu > Mute > Mute.
On desktop
  1. Open Google+.
  2. Go to someone’s profile/page > click the arrow below their profile photo and info > Mute [person/page] > Mute.

To unmute a person or page, follow the steps you used to mute them, then select Unmute.

When you mute someone:

  • You will no longer receive notifications from this person or page. For example, you'll no longer get a notification when they share a post with you or comment on your posts.
  • You can still see their updates in your stream or when you visit their profile/page.

Mute a post

To stop receiving notifications from a post, and to remove it from your stream, follow these steps:

On Android
  1. Open the Google+ app.
  2. Touch a post > menu icon/button > Mute > OK.
On iOS
  1. Open the Google+ app.
  2. Touch a post >  menu > Mute post > Yes.
On desktop
  1. Open Google+.
  2. Hover over a post > click the  arrow at the top of the post > Mute post.

To unmute a post, follow the steps you used to mute it, then select Unmute. To report a violation of our Content Policies, select Report abuse/post.

You can control who can send you notifications and who can comment on your public posts. If you really want to limit your interaction with someone, consider blocking them.

Did you “ignore” people awhile ago?

Even though the Ignore action is no longer available, you can still view the list of people you've ignored in the past. Here’s how:

  1. On desktop, open Google+. Place your cursor in the top left corner for the Google+ main menu > click People.
  2. Go to Your circles tab > click the Actions menu > select View ignored.
