Change your profile's search results setting

When someone uses a web search engine (like Google.com) to search for you, they may see your Google Currents profile in their search results.

If you want to make it harder for people to find you through search engines, you can change your profile's search results setting.

Choose if your Currents profile is crawled by web search engines

You can use your Currents settings to change whether or not web search engines crawl your profile page.

  1. On your computer, open Currents.
  2. Click Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Scroll to "Profile."
  4. Turn "Help others discover my profile in search results" on or off.

Changes you make to your search results setting may be reflected across web search engines at different times. It depends on when each web search engine crawls your profile page.

Note: If you're using Currents for work or school, next to the box it will say: "Help people outside my organization find my profile in search results." If your organization has restricted content sharing, this option may not be available.

Using Google Currents for work or school?

The person in your organization who manages your Google Workspace account (system administrator) can choose whether or not your profile page is crawled by web search engines. If you don't like what they chose, you can change the setting.

Your administrator can also make an internal directory available that includes the names and email addresses of the people in your organization. Important: If the directory (Contact Sharing) is turned on for your organization, people in your organization can easily find your profile regardless of your search results setting. For example, they could find your profile by searching for contacts in Gmail.

If you're not sure whether or not your directory is turned on or off, we recommend reaching out to your organization's technical support team.

Ways people can get to your profile, regardless of your settings

Even if your profile page isn't crawled by web search engines, people may still be able to find it. For example:

  • If someone knows your profile's URL or web address, they can use it to go directly to your profile.
  • If you or someone else linked to your profile on another website (like a blog or news site), your name and the link to your profile may show up in search results.
  • Your profile may be suggested to others.
  • People will be able to use the search features in other Google products (like Google Currents search) to find your profile.
