Choosing how you share information on your Google+ profile

You can choose what you share on your Google+ profile using your profile settings. You can pick who sees your information, as well as what information people can see. For example, you can let everyone see the "Basic Information" section of your profile, but only let your friends circle see your contact information.

Tip: The only information that you can’t hide is your name, profile photo and cover photo. Your tagline will also be public, if you add one, as well as your YouTube channel, if it’s linked to your account.

Community posts

If you're a member of a Google+ community, you can choose whether or not to show what you post in communities on your Google+ profile. If you share your community posts on your profile, they will be included in the Posts tab. But people can only see them there if they can view the original post.

  2. In the top left-hand corner, click the drop-down menu > click Settings.
  3. Scroll to the "Profile" section > tick or untick the box next to "Show your Google+ communities posts on the Posts tab of your Google+ profile". If the box is ticked, the posts will show on your profile.

Community membership

You can use your profile to share the Google+ communities that you’ve joined.

Tip: You can choose to show all your community memberships, but if you’re in more than 30 communities, you can only show 30 memberships at a time. If you’d like to choose which 30 show on your profile, use your settings to pick which communities can be seen.

To see if your communities are being shown, you can check your profile. If they are, and you don’t want people to see them, you can take them off your profile or choose which ones you want to be shown. And if you’d like your communities shown on your profile, but they aren’t there, you can add them.

Important:

  • Private communities: If you’re in a private community, your membership can’t be seen by everyone. It’ll be limited to other members of that community and people invited to that community.
  • Joining new communities: If all your community memberships are shown on your profile (and you didn't select every community one by one), the communities that you join in the future will also be shown on your profile. But if you've selected which community memberships can be seen on your profile, new communities that you join won’t be shown until you add them.
