Charge your Pixel Slate

Your Pixel Slate's battery will last up to 10 hours before you have to recharge.1

Plug in your power adaptor

Charge the battery on your Pixel Slate by plugging the power adaptor into one of the USB Type-C ports. You'll know Pixel Slate is charging when the battery icon in the lower right of your screen changes from Low battery to Battery charging

Note: If you use a low-power charger (20 W or less), your Pixel Slate may charge slowly, or perhaps not at all. If you connect Pixel Slate to a low-power charger, you'll see this battery icon and a notification in the bottom-right corner of your screen. We recommend using the power adaptor that came with your Pixel Slate. If you lost it or want a second one, you can order it from the Google Store.

Select the time in the lower-right corner of your screen to see how much time it will take to fully charge your Pixel Slate. When it's fully charged, the battery icon will change to Battery full

The small light next to the charging port will show when the power adaptor is plugged in to Pixel Slate. The colour of the light indicates your Pixel Slate's charging state:

  • Orange light: Battery is charging
  • White light: Battery is fully charged

Check your battery power

If your battery is about to die, a warning will show in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Connect the power adaptor to Pixel Slate to continue working.

See how much charge your Pixel Slate's battery has by clicking the battery icon Battery icon in the lower-right corner of your screen. A window will open to show what percentage of power is remaining and how much time it'll take until your battery is drained.

Connect to a phone, tablet or laptop with USB Type-C

You can charge your Pixel Slate using a phone, tablet or other laptop with a USB Type-C port, if the other device supports two-way charging:

  1. If your Pixel Slate is plugged into a power adaptor, unplug it.
  2. Connect your Pixel Slate to another laptop, tablet or phone with a USB Type-C port.
  3. Select the clock in the lower-right corner of your screen.
  4. Select Settings Settings
  5. In the 'Device' section, click Power.
  6. Choose the port to which your phone, tablet or other laptop is attached.
For example, if you'd like to charge your Pixel Slate using a phone that's connected to the left USB Type-C port, select USB-C device (left port).
  7. Your device will begin to charge from the other device.

Tips to help your battery last longer

Here are a few tips that can prevent your battery from draining too fast:

  1. Avoid adjusting your screen brightness to the highest setting. Consider keeping your screen brightness at around 50%. If you have the Pixel Slate Keyboard, keep your keyboard backlight at a moderate setting as well.
  2. Don't run more than one processor-heavy app (such as Adobe Lightroom) at a time.

Troubleshoot issues with charging Pixel Slate

If the connector on your device or power adaptor is damaged, don't plug it in. Doing so could permanently damage the device and may be unsafe. Contact our support team for assistance.

We recommend using the USB-C power adaptor that came with your Pixel Slate. If you need another one, you may order one from the Google Store.

You can charge your device using most USB Type-C ports or USB chargers with a Type-C to Type-A adaptor cable that complies with the USB-C Standard. However, these chargers may provide less power to your device, and take longer to charge than the original charger, or even be unable to charge the battery while the device is on. For this reason, we always recommend using the original chargers or a Made for Google charger.

If you've connected your device to an appropriate charger, but it still isn't charging, try the following troubleshooting steps:

Ensure that your device is plugged in correctly and that the charging LED is illuminated
  1. Disconnect the charger from your device and unplug it from the power socket.
  2. Wait 5 seconds, then plug the charger back in and connect it to your device.
  3. Check that the LED next to the port that you've connected to turns on.
  4. If the LED indicates that your device is charging, but it still won't turn on, wait a few minutes to let it charge before trying again.

If the charging LED is blinking red when plugged in, and your device isn't turning on or charging even after several minutes of being connected to its original charger, the battery may be deeply discharged. In this case, try connecting your device to a less powerful charger for an hour. Examples of less powerful chargers may include older USB phone chargers, or the USB 2.0 port on another computer.

Update your device to the most recent available OS version
  1. Connect your device to Wi-Fi.
  2. At the bottom right, select the time to open the status area.
  3. Select Settings Settings.
  4. Select Menu Menu and then About Chrome OS.
  5. Under 'Google Chrome OS', you'll see which version of the Chrome operating system your device is using.
  6. Select Check for updates.
  7. If your device finds a software update, it will start to download automatically.
Perform a hard reset of your device

If the battery icon doesn't indicate charging, or if the charging LED doesn't turn on, you may need to reset your device. A hard reset will not remove accounts or personal data from your device, but you should make sure that you save any open files before proceeding.

  1. Turn off your device by holding down the PowerPower, or selecting the time in the bottom right and choosing Power Power
  2. Wait 1 minute.
  3. Press and hold the Power Power + Volume up button for 10 seconds.

After resetting your device, try connecting the charger again.

If the issue is still unresolved, contact our support team.
