You can use Chrome to translate pages. You can also change your preferred language in Chrome.
Translate pages in Chrome
You can use Chrome to translate a page into other languages.
- On your Android device, open Chrome .
- Go to a page that you want to translate.
- In the notification at the top of the screen, tap the language that you want to translate the page to.
- To change the default language:
- Tap Settings More languages.
- Select the language.
- To always translate pages in this language, tap Settings Always translate pages in [language].

Not working? Try refreshing the page. If you still can't tap Translate, the language might not be available for translation.
If you don't find a Translate notification at the top of your screen, you can request a translation.
- On your Android device, open Chrome .
- To the right of the address bar, tap More Translate.
Tip: If you want to translate a language from your list, tap the language and select Offer to translate.
- On your Android device, open Chrome .
- Go to a page that you want to translate.
- Highlight the text that you want to translate.
- At the bottom, a translation of that word or phrase will appear.
- To get more information, tap the translation.
Change your default page translation settings
You can use Chrome to translate pages based on your preferred language settings.
Change your default language
Select the language that Chrome will translate the page into.
- On your Android device, open Chrome .
- To the right of the address bar, tap More Settings.
- Tap Languages Advanced .
- Tap Translate into this language.
- From the language list, select the language that you want.
Add, reorder or remove your preferred languages
Pages in more than one language show your preferred language first.
- On your Android device, open Chrome .
- To the right of the address bar, tap More Settings Languages.
- Under 'Preferred languages', tap Add language.
- Tap the language that you want to add.
- To reorder languages, drag them to the place you want.
- To remove a language, next to the language that you want to remove tap More Remove.
Turn translation on or off
You can control when Chrome offers to translate pages.
To turn all translations for all pages on or off:
- On your Android device, open Chrome .
- To the right of the address bar, tap More Settings.
- Tap Languages.
- Under 'Translation settings', turn on or off Offer to send pages in other languages to Google Translate.
Manage 'never translate' language list
- On your Android device, open Chrome .
- To the right of the address bar, tap More Settings.
- Tap Languages Advanced .
- Tap Don’t offer to translate these languages.
- To add a language, tap Add language and select the language to never translate.
- To remove a language, next to the language that you want to remove, tap More Remove.
Manage 'always translate' language list
- On your Android device, open Chrome .
- To the right of the address bar, tap More Settings.
- Tap Languages Advanced .
- Tap Automatically translate these languages.
- To add a language, tap Add language and select the language to always translate.
- To remove a language, next to the language that you want to remove, tap More Remove.
Change the language of Chrome
You can choose the default language of your Chrome app's menus and settings.
- On your Android device, open Chrome .
- To the right of the address bar, tap More Settings Languages.
- Under 'Chrome's language', tap the current language.
- From the list, select the language that you want.
- After the language downloads, in the toolbar, tap Restart.
When you find 'Language ready' under your new language, the download is complete.
