Lowest volume on Pixel 5 system sounds is very loud 0 Recommended Answers 10 Replies 129 Upvotes

I have my volume set to the very bottom and my system sounds are very loud (screenshot sound, camera shutter, dialer tones, etc).

Many others have posted about this on here and Reddit but I have yet to see an official answer from Google. I really want to see this fixed in a software update ASAP.

EDIT 2: I'm noticing some notification sounds are shockingly loud, too. Such as a notification sound that it's my turn in a game (Star Realms). And the text notification sound. This is the case even with all volume sliders set to the very bottom.

EDIT 3: This is a volume bug, plain and simple. We deserve an answer from Google about why this is happening and whether they can fix it in a software update. This never happened with Google Pixel 1, 2, 3, or 4. I am FED UP with the lack of response from Google Support representatives, who consistently tell us that "no one else has reported this issue," which as you can see from the MANY posts about it, is clearly untrue. I have begun contacting media about this issue to hopefully cause Google to finally give us some answers.

Here are other threads about the same issue:

I first noticed this when I went to record a voice message in Whatsapp; touching the mic and releasing it both resulted in VERY LOUD sounds.  I tried the same in the native Messages app that came with the phone; while the sound is not nearly as obnoxious, it's still inordinately loud, ignoring my volume settings.  Perhaps the most obvious instance is the sound of the screenshot.  These things are LOUD LOUD and do not care what I do with my volume sliders.

Saving grace: if I set everything to silent, then these things also are silent (yay!); however anything other than all-silent -- the lowest possible volume settings -- and the volume of these activities/sounds is FULL LOUD.

Exactly same results in Safe Mode.

I agree this is extremely annoying. I take a lot of screenshots and the noise is L.O.U.D. It makes it nearly impossible to take a screenshot in public without turning heads; the other commuters are starting to hate me.
Please fix this.

Tried Facebook today first time in my new Pixel 5 and pressing like it's VERY LOUD. Seems stupid to have to go silent when before on my Pixel 3XL it was just a light sound with exact same settings and same version of Android 11. Very annoying.

Having the same issue.  Truly is annoying.  Only on my Pixel 5, 4, and 3 I have don't do this.

I too contacted support, and pointed them here, they said no one has reported this issue.  Already had done a factory reset, the issue persisted, though before reset (which I did for an unrelated reason) I just thought I needed to adjust notification volume in the mixer, and hadn't done so.

Would be good to have a fast fix here, some of the sounds are just shockingly loud when you least expect it.

Phone seem good in every other way thus far.

I've compiled a list of the posts with hundreds of Pixel 5 users reporting this issue.

PLEASE send feedback on your device (Settings > About phone > Send feedback about this device) and contact Google Support and send them these links for proof that it is a common issue. ALSO, please contact media about this so we can get this addressed. I've contacted The Verge, Android Central, Android Police, and 9 to 5 Google but haven't heard back yet. The more people who send feedback and contact Google and media, the more likely this will get fixed.
