One button screenshot option disappeared on update
0
Updated to Android 11 on my Google Pixel 3 XL and now I can no longer access screenshot by pressing the power button alone. Any ideas how I can get this back? Pressing Power and volume needs a a few attempts and is a lot more clumsy.

Thanks

John

Hi John - You can take a screenshot by going into Recent Apps view and tapping the screenshot button. That will take a screenshot of the app that is in-focus in the Recent Apps view.

This is so stupid! Why would you take this function away from us? I use this often. If I had known the update would take away this option, I wouldn't have installed it!

Please reverse this decision to remove it from our power button screen!

Totally agree, why change the one button quick screenshot option that i used alot, to now fiddle about swiping in another screen, probably loosing in the process the image you were trying to capture quickly!

I just checked out what someone previously suggested, using the recent apps view. This is the square icon on the bottom of the screen, I never knew it was called recent apps view... Sure enough there is an option to screenprint or select. Phew! Check it out!

I want the power button screen shot back, I have amputated fingers and can not hold 2 buttons down at the same time. The no buttons suggestion is no good either as it requires dexterity and fingers I don't possess!
Why change something effective and simple to something far worse! The same as the new cropping in photos now clumsy and poor rather than simple! VERY ANNOYED

Pixel 2 - I can use the recent app view to access screenshot, but that isn't acceptable because I can't take a screenshot of the screen.  For example, my home screen or the Google news page.  Holding the power and volume down button is very awkward, thus not a good solution.  What was the point of taking my recent apps away and moving the screenshot there?  I hope they fix this annoyance soon.

Worst update, by far! I loved how easy it was to take a screenshot...now I either need to use two hands to get both buttons, or I have to go through a two step process on my screen. So disappointed to lose such an easy thing.😭

I have had this phone for over a year and pressing and holding the power button always gave me the option to take a screenshot. I tried what someone else posted... Power button and volume down at the same time. I need TWO hands to be able to do this now, instead of one. Sigh. Some updates are NOT improvements.

I miss that feature too. It seems like if you hold down the middle button ( the home button) on the screen there's a button that says "share screenshot". This seems to save a screenshot that's ready to share. I know... Not the same but better than holding two buttons.

Completely agree, power and volume as a combo on the same side is the most retarded update ever. It's not 2012 anymore.

For me it worked if you go to system>gestures>system navigation and change it to 3 buttons. The third button (a square) on the right, now has the screen shot option if you press it.

It took some stumbling around to find. Would've been nice to have a "hey we've moved that option" instead of simply removing. Why is it necessary to send data info for usage statistics if they don't even use the information?

Go to recent apps and tap and hold the picture you want to take screenshot of...and it will give option to save... it's much better than actually taking a screenshot because you won't need to edit out other parts that you don't want other to see...it's more like Apple's add to photos option. So, not a step back. Yes, button was quite handy but this way is cool too...btw I used 3aXL

Bring back the ONE BUTTON screenshot.  I  need to take screenshots when I'm on the go, and I can't use two hands/multiple fingers simultaneously to do this.  It was nice and easy before.  The "update" has made it very difficult to use.   Please fix or I'll find another option.  I don't want to go into different menus to choose the app to take a screenshot.  Simple process. Hold the button, take screenshot.  Why are we making this difficult?

Or once in Settings do a search for Gestures if you do not see it right away like on my Pixel 3XL

Same thing just happened on my Pixel 4 XL. I was taking screenshots with just the power button less than an hour ago.

It's not just an Android 11 thing either (as many have suggested). I upgraded to 11 on 9/5, and I was taking screenshots as I have for the past 4 years until 9/28 at about 7:00 PM EST.

Okay I followed the instructions and now have the screen shot at the bottom of the screen, but this is a slight improvement over the horrible screw up caused by the latest upgrade... You have to turn on 2 Gesture Navigation. Slowly swipe up from the bottom middle, hold, and the Screenshot option will appear.

Hey everyone, I found an easier way to do screenshot than holding the power and volume simultaneously!  Go to settings, to System, to Gestures, to System navigation, change to 3 button.  It adds a little square on the bottom right of the screen.  You can do screenshot easily from there.  It does also change where you navigate to previous screens tho but only a touch of the square gets you there.

Cannot stand using 2 buttons to take a screenshot. I take many screenshots and now I use 2 buttons because someone decided it would be easier to do GPay.
