I bought this Pixel 3 in Nov 2018. The device is out warranty but under the device protection plan. The back of the phone is popping off because the battery is swelling. I am not sure when it started to swell because I am using a phone case. I accidentally took the case off today and noticed the swollen battery. Glad it didn't explode or caught on fire while I was sleeping. Google should do something to solve this ASAP. I am seriously considering switching to an iPhone.

My Pixel 3XL is doing the same thing, bulging due to battery swelling. Glad I came across this article as I didn't know what was happening to my phone all of a sudden with the back coming off. I did a chat with Google support today. Because I bought my phone at BestBuy in 2018, they can only offer me a replacement phone if I send in my phone first. While that isn't ideal, it was the best they could do. I did send them a picture and once they saw the picture of my phone, they offered the replacement. I talked with a front-line person first and then they elevated the chat to the next level of support who provided me with the package and shipping instructions. Overall, I very good experience with Google support. Took less than an hour. Just passing this on in the hopes it can help someone else.

Same here guys.
Just as I posted in another thread, earlier today I took the case off and noticed the same thing. I had to keep using the phone to get in touch with support. They very quickly wanted pictures, chat got transferred to another support person, and within
1.5 hours had a shipping label. The whole experience sort of sucks, but I
think they might be in damage control mode.
I
also noticed that there are more and more posts about bloated
batteries, so it's just a matter of time before they start blowing
peoples legs off, and setting houses and cars on fire. From what I saw, battery debacle cost Samnsung 9.7
billion dollars. It doesnt take a lot of imagination to see Google
trying to quickly and quietly get these bloated batteries out of peoples
hands.

I originally purchased my Pixel 3 two years ago from the Google Store in the USA. I spent about 45 minutes on chat with support, although about 15 minutes of this was me taking photos of the device that they requested. My case was immediately escalated to Tier 2 in the same chat session, and they offered me an advance exchange (with credit card hold) or regular exchange. It would have taken even less time except that I forgot that I had ordered the phone using a different account.
