I dictated a text message and used an expletive.  Google printed it as F*********.  Is there a way to stop this google censorship?

Nobody is censoring you, Its a setting you need to change in the kjeyboard settings under Voice Typing.

Turn off Hide offensive words

Thank you very much, Scott.  Can you please tell me how to find where to make those settings changes.  I did help searches in various places but could not find them.  I found where to select Gboard but can only choose between automatic and not automatic.

I found where to select "Hide offensive words" under "Voice".  However, it is currently "off", yet the offensive word I spoke was replaced by asterisks except for the first letter.

Thanks, Scott, I found the setting in the manner you instructed.  However, "Hide offensive words" has been in the "off" position all along, yet the words are replaced with asterisks.  I tried turning it on, and then turning it off again but it continues to hide the words.

Hi Errol,
Go to Settings->System->Languages & input->Virtual keyboard->Gboard->Voice typing->Disable Faster Voice Typing. Does this help?

That worked !!  Thank you.  I recall that Google encouraged me to do that update to Gboard a few weeks age.  So, I did it.  Apparently the update has a flaw and will not respond to setting that disables censoring offensive words  Since I don't text all that much and rarely dictate foul words, I didn't discover this until now (with your help).  I presume that disabling faster voice typing means that the update is effectively undone including its other consequences.

Hi Errol,

I think you're right - it seems there's currently an issue with the "faster voice typing" option which prevents it from transcribing offensive words. The good news is that it seems to be fixed in the latest beta version of Gboard. That means the fix should make its way to the stable release before too long, and also means you can try installing the beta version if you would like to use colorful language right away:

Cheers,
John

Rather than wait, I disabled "faster voice typing" so "colorful" language can be used now and not be censored.

I disapprove and resent the political correctness demand that certain words not be spoken.  I think it insults the intelligence and the maturity of others to use PC euphemisms like using only the first letter followed by "word" such as "the N word" or "the  F word".  Either use the real word or don't use it, but the euphemisms are childish and insulting.
