Pixel 8 Bluetooth Can't Find Devices

Is anyone else experiencing significant issues with Bluetooth Pairing on the Pixel 8? I just upgraded today and am finding the phone cannot discover devices that easily connect to my Pixel 6. My car (Mazda), and my Fitbit (Versa 4) so far are completely undiscoverable while in pairing mode.

I've tried:

Restarts on the phone

Checking for software updates

Re-connecting to my Pixel 6 (works fine for all devices)

Device factory re-set for the Fitbit

Turning Bluetooth off/on

I have successfully had one device connect so far: the Pixel Pro Buds. Those are brand-new and I think connect differently than other devices because the phone sent me a push notification to connect them (makes sense I guess because they are a part of the pixel suite?)

I can't get the phone to connect to my Kenwood DMX car radio. The message on the phone is "Can't communicate with DMX7705S". It didn't ask for a PIN #, like my previous phones did. I need the hands free for use in the car for safety. I stopped & restarted car radio & bluetooth app on phone many times. No success.

Update: Rebooted the phone, & retried. I got the same message twice, and immediately tried again each time. On the 3rd time it connected. No idea why; I changed nothing. What's that all about? ? ? But, success finally. I was afraid the phone was defective. Maybe it is, but at least I can safely drive while taking work calls now.
