Call screening missing after update to Android 14

I updated my Pixel 7 to Android 14 the other day, since then the call screening options have been completely removed. When I receive a call there is no option, when I looking in the settings on the phone app there is nothing related to call screening.

I'm in Canada so only expect the manual option.

Followed the advice on another reddit thread to go into Apps -> Phone then clear cache and force stop ... reloaded and the call screening is back

I have it enabled in settings but when people call me I only get the option to ask "Is it urgent?", not the overall "Screen Call" which tells them I'm there and defeats most of my use case. Is this the same for you? Or is it missing from settings as well? (I'm in the US)

I just noticed the same problem. Android 14, pixel 7 pro in Australia. The call screen menu option is completely gone from call settings

Hey I've also got the Pixel 7 pro and updated to android 14 but in UK. Did you get a fix?

I'm in the US, and have loved the Call Screening feature on my Pixel. In fact getting it was why I switched my wife's phone over from a Samsung to a Google Pixel. Call Screening is a REASON to get a Pixel phone. Like VisiCalc sold early PC's it is a killer app. PLEASE don't tell me it's gone away!!!

All,

Try this - make sure everything is up to date:

Check for Android and Play system updates:
Check & update your Android version
Check for Play Store and Apps updates:
How to update the Play Store & apps on Android
Check for Play services update:
Settings > Apps > See all .. apps > Google Play services > App details > Update (if available)

Then power the phone down, wait a minute and turn it back on. Give it some time to catch up on server side switches and check if the setting is back.

Very frustrating -- the Call Screen on my 7a now says "Ask If Urgent" -- how can I get the original "Call Screening" back that actually screens the calls?

HELP!

5a still is missing call screen all together. I truly hate these updates.

On my Pixel 5A, I fixed this problem by hitting force stop in the Pixel settings (where every app can be viewed) and then immediately cleared the cache and opened the phone app. When I opened the app settings the call screening button appeared after several seconds.

OMG I think I have fixed this. Go to the Phone app > Settings > Call Screen

I had to download some language thing for Australia.

Waiting for a call now to see if it worked

It's been over 2 weeks since I've updated to the version 14 (I could kick myself) I always pause before these updates, and regret them. Now I really do.

I have tried everything to get my "call screen" back on both my Google Pixel 5a and 7a -- nothing works. Clearing the cached, force stop, restarting, going into settings on the phone app -- "Call Screen" - etc...

As someone else mentioned, this was one of my favorite functions of the phone -- I actually had friends ask me how to set it up for them.

If anyone comes up with any other solutions -- please post it here. Again, it's so troubling when these so called "updates" cause more problems than solutions.

This worked for me as well. I seemed to have lost screening after the November 13 update but it's back after performing the above.

Pixel 7 Pro with beta versions of Phone and Google Play Services.

Clearing storage and force closing did not work. Disabling and re-enabling did not work (even after activation and language pack download).

Probably just need to wait for a fixed version to roll out.

Going through my default apps I realized I had the app Tasker set as the default call screen and spam app. While this worked fine in 13 it seems to have broken in 14. I've reverted it back to Phone and now I wait for a spam call to come in. Here's hoping.

I had this problem and could not find the fix anywhere. Here is what finally worked for me:

1. Go to Google Play and find the phone app "Phone by Google".

2. Click "Uninstall", which for most Android phones will just remove all updates.

3. Open the phone app to be sure the older version is installed.

4. Go back into Google Play, find the app again, and click "Update".

After this the call screening menu item was back and everything worked as expected!

I had the call screen option in the phone settings, but I couldn't get the actual feature to work. After following these instructions, it finally started working! Thank you so much for the hint.

Force stop and then clear cache. Open the settings mnu in the phone app and it should look like this. Scroll to the bottom and click the call screen. It is obviously bugged.
