How do I copy/transfer photos to an SD card

I have a Pixel 3 and a connected USB SD card reader/writer.
I can see the card in Files, however can’t figure out how to copy or move my photos to the card.
I’ve downloaded a couple of apps, however none recognize my reader.
I am off-grid with limited data connectivity, so uploading to Drive is not an option as I have more than 20GB of photos I want to move.

Hello,

When you open 'Files', tap 3 dots in top right corner and tap 'Show internal storage'. Then tap the hamburger menu button in top left corner and tap your phone's name in the menu. This will open the internal storage of your phone. Navigate to the photo/photos/folder that you want to transfer to the SD card, long press to select it, tap 3 dots in top right corner, tap 'Copy to...' or 'Move to...', as required. Now tap the hamburger menu button again, tap the SD Card entry, and tap 'Copy' in bottom right corner.

Feel free to post back if you face any problem during the process. It would be helpful if you include screenshots as well.

Thanks so much. That makes sense and I can see how it would work...
Except...
Now I can't see the damned SD card any more. I clicked what I thought was the eject button beside it in Files and now it's just not there anymore. How do I get it back?
