Hi devv d.  The Tensor chip apparently does become warmer than its predecessor in earlier Pixel models that is not a fault with the chip, however it certainly should never overheat (mine doesn't).  Make sure you don't take too many photos or shoot long videos in hot weather and allow the phone to cool off from time to time (mine does cool down quite quickly even when the weather has reached the ridiculous 40C temperature levels (UK).

If you're receiving regular on-screen warning messages and your phone is shutting down as a result then it may be that there is a fault with the handset.  If, however, you have recently installed the update to Android 13, it will certainly take a little time for the system to settle and to 'learn' your usage patterns (or so I'm told).

If you are seriously concerned the overheating may be dangerous to you, please contact Google Support HERE to report the problem and please don't put the phone near your face or plug it in to charge until it's safe to do so.

You can also leave feedback in Settings > About Phone that will provide the development team with a snapshot of your system.  Although you won't receive a personal response to your feedback, it will be noted and used to improve performance where necessary.

Regards, Penny.

I'm in the UK and my P6P gave me a overheat warning today whilst i was out and about and wanted to take a photo, today's temperature in my neck of the woods was 22°C. Of course our weather is given for the temperature in the shade and i was out in the sun so it was not that surprising to see, my battery was at 46°C.

Many of the overheating complaints we see on here are from users in India where the temperature is regularly way over 30°, (im not picking India out specifically but its the hottest place people seem to post from) in those temps you're up against it given Tensor is based on an Exynos 2100, but lets be honest in those temps any phone with any chipset is up against it, there are millions of posts from all brands about it. Even the iPhone isn't immune with people asking why my iPhone is shutting down or dimming the screen and the answer is always the same, it is the heat.

Hi Mr Belter. Thanks for you observations.  I've only had my 6a for a couple of weeks and installed A13 as soon as it was available OTA.  At first the back of the phone felt a bit warmish but was surprised to see the battery registering only 35C. The highest it has reached to date is 40C and I just put it down for a few minutes and the temp dropped really fast.

It's tricky to offer advice about temperatures on the forum as, for the most part, we don't know in which part of the universe our members are typing.  Best advice is to use common sense as we all have that no matter where we live.

Penny 😉

Penny, you have a far more optimistic opinion of people than I do! Recently, someone posted that they dropped their overheated phone into some water to cool it down, and then were surprised that it leaked and stopped working.

Perhaps it was just a little oversight. 🙂
