If you go into 'trash' you can tap on the hamburger menu on the top right and choose empty trash.

Hey Maureen,
You can delete the trash by; Photos app -> Trash (select from left hamburger menu) -> Empty Trash (button next to Restore).
You can chose whatever you want to delete.

To free up space on your phone, rather than delete images you can instead use Free-up-Space from the Google Photos App menu. Images will then be saved in the cloud but no longer on your phone.

Went to google photos-deleted them ALL and now my phone is clear-no more TRASH IS FULL message! Boy was that a pain. No one said I had to go to google photos to do this.

Open Google photos hit the hamburger at the top left to bring out the side menu hit trash then hit the three vertical dots at the top right and select empty trash this may take a while it may seem like your device is frozen especially if you have a lot of photos in the trash to delete but it is not just give it a minute

Hi Christine Dunn,

Can you post details on what version phone you have and what you have tried so far.

Yeah, i have a pixel 3 and use the Google Gallery Go for my gallery. It always says if i hit delete it is deleted forever but today it started saying my device trash is full. I've went all through my folders and no trash. So I tried the dropdown in Google Photos like everyone here is saying  and there's 1 photo in trash but under that dropdown in manage your Library it too says to empty the trash so thinking it is something different I hit it but it takes me to the 1 lonely picture which I deleted. Does anybody know where my DEVICE TRASH is please?

I can’t find the photo trash and I installed the clean up AP. Selected 130 photos. Hit trash can. Now they have a ck mark. I’m getting excited now. Then the master button. I push it. That was severe hours ago- nothing deletes. Nothing. It’s hopeless. This has sucked the life out of me.
