How do I set a custom ringtone on Android 12?

So obviously I have android 12, and it's refusing to let me change my ringtone to a custom one. I press the plus sign in "my sounds" and it takes me to my Google drive. I have the mp3 file on there but it's greyed out and won't let me select it. There's nothing online about this kind of problem and most of what I've seen tells you to go to downloads or use Google play music, neither of which I can do (the former I don't know why and the latter for obvious reasons RIP GPM). Does anyone on here know how I could do it?

It's possible that the reason it is grayed out is because it is on the cloud instead of your phones storage. Try downloading it to local storage and see if that helps.

Personally I would do this the following way...
Open the Drive app and locate your mp3 on the list.
Tap on 3 dots and choose download.
Once the download is complete, swipe up to open the app tray and open the Files app.
Locate the file in your download folder using the files app and play the file.
Once playing pause it then tap 3 dots top right and choose set as ringtone.
