Cynthia OPixel 2 XL screen flashes when locking and unlocking
I'm not sure why, but the Pixel 2 XL screen flashes when unlocking (fingerprint and lock button), when the screen wakes up because of notifications, when the screen dims and the phone locks, and when manually locking.
In the attached video (it's too bright for me to see this in real life), I noticed there's a little sensor that comes on when the screen flashes.
This doesn't happen all the time. I noticed it about 1-2 hours after purchasing (on 10/19/2017). I've yet to have the phone a full 24 hours.
On 10/19/2017 I restarted my phone at around 3:30pm and didn't experience the flashing again until 5:30-6am the following morning (today)
I've done safe mode and factory reset with no luck.

John BowdreHi Cynthia,
Have you tried disabling Adaptive Brightness to see if that has any impact on the flickering?
Cheers,
John

Cynthia OHi John!
I have done this and disabled Always On - but get the same result. Since posting in the forum, though, I've yet to have a flashing screen.
What I've done:
Disabled Adaptive Brightness
Disabled Always On
Turned on Night Light (never turn off)
Kept brightness at 33%
Because of the inconsistency of this issue, I'm not sure if I will see the flash again tomorrow morning.

John BowdreGreat troubleshooting! Please do let us know if it returns. If not, this may be something that could be fixed with software tuning. If it does return, you may want to use the on-device support options to discuss the issue further with Google Support to see if it might warrant an RMA.

Google userHi,
I just notice this issue with my pixel 2 XL today. Im going to return mine back to Verizon.

Google userMy Pixel 2 XL does a quick flash like that on its own. Very random. I'm returning it for a regular pixel....:(

Alan YoonEither way, you should probably return it.

Cynthia OAn update. So far I haven't had this issue again. I've re-enabled Adaptive Brightness - no issue. So then I turned off night mode (I actually prefer the way it looks with night mode on haha) and still no issue. So things are looking good!

Pete VoYep, mine flashes every time I lock the screen but not when I unlock it.

Bryan GauthierI'm having this same problem.
What a disaster of a oLED panel this thing is.

Mike EmshwillerSame issue here. While going from normal ready home screen and using power button to turn off display it flashes white very quick and then shows the "always on display" Might have to start that RMA process.

CoryR1000I have not had a "flashing" issue since I updated to android P about a week ago. Its very easy to do. Its an OTA update once you register for the beta program.
