Pixel 2 XL not receiving July security update

Hi,

My Pixel 2Xl has not yet received the security update for july'18. My family member who is having pixel 2 has already received the update for July security patch. Not sure what's the issue. I have purchased the device in India

Hi,

Google uses a staggered release for Android updates; a small percentage of devices receive the update each day until it finally reaches all devices. This approach allows Google to monitor for any issues which may be inadvertently caused by the update before every device is impacted. As a result it may take a few weeks for every device to receive the update.

This doesn't indicate a problem or an issue, it's just the update process working as intended. Hang in there and you should get the update in the coming days.

Cheers,
John

Hi Vikram,

Thanks for posting on the Pixel User Community.

I see that you are facing issues with receiving the security updates on your Pixel 2. The update is released in batches. It might take a while for your Pixel 2 to receive the updates.

For more details, please refer to this help article.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Matt

It's now the 16th. Still no patch.
This isn't normal, no matter what the thread above says.
My device has promptly gotten updated in the past months, now nothing.

Have you tried connecting your phone to a computer through USB connection? I read it in another thread like this, and thought, "nah, that couldn't help", but really wanted the update and after disconnecting from laptop, low and behold there is the update ready to download and run on Pixel 2 XL.  YMMV.

I have spoken to Google Support twice on this issue, still waiting for July security patch in hopes of addressing the slow sleep/wake and fingerprint sensor responsiveness, as well as other bugs... They said it could take more than 2 weeks, however, I've had pixel 2 xl, nexus 6p and nexus 5 before that and i've never had to wait over a week since release for a security patch...

I'm with ya there. Never waited this long for an update.
Also the plugging into the computer thing didn't work.
Security / Performance Updates are among the most important things to me after purchasing a device, which is why I no longer buy Samsung.
This needs to be addressed.

Same here. Usually I get those monthly security updates on my Pixel 2 XL by the 5th of each month. Right now it's almost the 19th of July and still no July security patch. I'm surprised Google is not aware of this. Not sure it's normal. By the time we get this update it will be time for the August update or probably for Android 9 upgrade.

Thanks for letting us know all is now well Taz and, hopefully, you'll have no such problems when the August update arrives.
