Enable Gemini NANO 'On-Device' on Google Pixel 8 & 8a

28K Views59 Upvotes
Get ready to experience the future of AI with Gemini Nano, soon available locally on your Pixel 8 & Pixel 8a!

To ensure you're prepared, enable the option to run 'On-Device' Gemini Nano, right on your Pixel!

1) Go to  Developer Settings
2) Search for AICore Settings and press it
3) Activate 'Enable on-device GenAI Features

Note: Enabling this option is a prerequisite for Gemini Nano, but the actual rollout will be done gradually by Google and may take several weeks to reach all devices.

Disclaimer: This option is currently hidden in Developer Options as it may cause instability and performance/battery life issues.

Once Enabled on-device GenAI Features optional do I have to keep the developer options enabled?

I've always kept those options enabled on my devices. I noticed that on my Pixel 8, if I disable them, the nano Gemini option remains active, while other developer options get turned off. It seems better to just leave it enabled.

Prepare for the future of AI with Gemini Nano on your Pixel 8 & Pixel 8a by enabling 'On-Device' GenAI Features in Developer Settings. Remember, rollout may take several weeks, and activating this option could impact stability and battery life.

After the June update, my Pixel 8 Pro does not have the option to enable on device GenAI features under the AICore settings. I do have the Gemini app. Are there other requirements before the option appears?

Only in the USA.  Outside the USA, the pixel 8 pro misses out much of the features that launch at Google I/O

Falling for the pixel 8 pro hype was a big mistake I regret

it may take time for the roll out. Activating AICore is a prerequisite so it seems like we just have to wait... Good luck hopefully things will start to work out

I've had the AICore setting to enable on device GenAI turned on for months now, and still no sign of the rollout. How can I tell whether it should be available to me, and when it is scheduled?

I see Enable AI Core Persistent on my Pixel 8 Pro device. I am trying to enable GEN AI feature and use Gemini Nano on my device.  Any reasons why I don't see Enable on Device GEN AI features

Hello Antonio, and All,
Kindly share the experience after enabling G. Nano and using it?
I would like to know how G.Nano AI responds compared to Gemini Web, and ChatCPT?
Also, so share its impact on battery and overall performance on the phone especially on pixel8?
