To be prepared in case you lose your phone, you can check that Find My Device can find it. If your device is already lost learn how to find, lock or erase it.
Important: Some of these steps work only on Android 8.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.
Ensure that your device can be found
To find, lock or erase an Android phone, that phone must:
- Be turned on
- Be signed in to a Google Account
- Be connected to mobile data or Wi-Fi
- Be visible on Google Play
- Have Location turned on
- Have Find My Device turned on
Step 1: Check that you’re signed in to a Google Account
- Open your device's Settings app

- At the top right, tap the Profile image.
- Verify that the email address that you used to sign in is correct.
Step 2: Check that Location is on
- Open your device's Settings app
.
- Tap Location.
- Turn on Location.
Step 3: Check that Find My Device is on
Important: If you hide a device on Google Play, it won't appear in Find My Device.
- Open your device's Settings app
.
- Tap Security
Find My Device.
- If you can’t find 'Security', tap Security and location or Google
Security.
- If you can’t find 'Security', tap Security and location or Google
- Check if 'Find My Device' is turned on.
Step 4: Check that you can find your device
Important: If you hide a device on Google Play, it won't show in Find My Device.
- Open https://play.google.com/library/devices.
- At the top left, make sure that the box 'Show in menus' is ticked.
Install the app
