To be prepared in case you lose your phone, you can check that Find My Device can find it. If your device is already lost learn how to find, lock, or erase it.
Important: Some of these steps work only on Android 8.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.
Make sure your device can be found
To secure or erase an Android device, make sure the device:
- Has power
- Is connected to mobile data or Wi-Fi
- Is signed in to a Google Account
- Has Find My Device turned on
- Is visible on Google Play
Step 1: Check that you’re signed in to a Google Account
- On your device, open Settings Google.
- Your account name and email address should be here.
- Verify your email address.
Step 2: Check that Location is on
- On your device, open Settings.
- Tap Location.
- Turn on Location.
Step 3: Check that Find My Device is on
Important: If you hide a device on Google Play, it won't show in Find My Device.
- On your device, open Settings.
- Tap Google All Services (if tabs exist) Find My Device.
- Check that “Use Find My Device” is turned on.
Step 4: Check that you can find your device
Important: If you hide a device on Google Play, you won't find it in Find My Device.
- Open https://play.google.com/library/devices.
- At the top left, make sure that the box “Show In Menus” is checked.

To be prepared to use one Android phone or tablet to find another, install the Find My Device app .
