Change how your device connects to printers, accessories & more

You can control how your Android phone or tablet connects to other devices via Bluetooth, NFC, Cast, and more.

Note: Some of these steps work only on Android 8.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

Change your settings

  1. Open your device’s Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Connected devices.
  3. Tap the setting you want to change.

What settings you can change

Bluetooth

You can play music, make phone calls, and more by connecting your device to another device that also uses Bluetooth.

Cast

If you have a Chromecast, Nexus Player, or other device that can cast, you can project your device's screen and audio to a TV.

NFC

You can share information by touching your device to another device that also uses near field communication (NFC). Learn how to use NFC with Tap & Pay or Android Beam.

To turn NFC on or off:

  1. Open your device’s Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Connected devices.
  3. Turn NFC on or off.
Android Beam

You can share content, like photos, videos, and web pages, directly from your screen to another device by bringing the devices together (usually back to back) with Android Beam.

USB

You can use a USB cable with your device. Learn how to transfer files or record audio with a USB cable.

To choose how you want to use your USB connection:

  1. Make sure your device is connected to another device via USB.
  2. Open your device’s Settings app Settings app.
  3. Tap Connected devices.
  4. Tap USB.
  5. Pick an option.
Printing

You can print from some apps on your device. In apps that can't print, you can take and print a screenshot.
