Fix a Pixel phone that won't charge or turn on

Use the steps on this page to fix the following problems on your phone:
  • Won’t turn on
  • Has a black or blank screen
  • Turns on but won’t charge
  • Turns on but immediately turns off

Self-help troubleshooting steps

Turn on the device or hold the Power button

Important: For the best battery experience and charging speeds, use:

  • A Google 30 W USB-C power adapter or other programmable power supply (PPS) power adapter rated for 30 W or more.
  • Other USB power delivery (PD) adapters rated for 15 W or more.
    • Depending on your Pixel phone, actual charging speeds may vary.

Press and hold your phone's Power button for 5–7 seconds. Learn more about how to turn on your Pixel phone.

Troubleshoot case, battery charger, cable & outlet

Remove your phone case to ensure that it doesn’t interfere with your charging plug or wireless charger. For best charging performance, use a wired charging plug.

Confirm your power adapter & cable or wireless charger work

Wired charger and cable

  1. Try to charge another device with your power adapter and cable.
  2. Check that the cable is securely connected to the adapter and to your phone.
  3. Check that there's nothing in the port of your phone, like dust or lint.
  4. Try to charge your phone with another cable or power adapter.

Wireless charger

Tips:

  • If you get a “Check charging accessory” notification, your cable or USB power adapter may be damaged or not supported by your phone. This can cause your phone to charge very slowly or not at all.
  • To assist in troubleshooting, you can call your phone as described in the “Troubleshoot your screen” section below.
Check that your outlet works
  1. Plug the charger into a wall outlet.
  2. Plug in something else, like a lamp.
  3. Check that no accessories, like cases or battery packs, cover the sensors on your phone or press its buttons.
Use a working charger to charge your phone for 10 minutes
  1. Plug in your phone with a working cable, charger, and outlet.
  2. Wait one minute.
    • If you see a battery icon, your phone is powered off and is charging. You can restart right away.

To check if your phone is charging:

  1. Open your phone’s Settings app.
  2. Tap Battery.
Tip: If possible, in case of a very low battery charge, allow the battery to charge for at least another 10 minutes as you progress through the next steps. A device with a very low charge will charge for several minutes before allowing the screen to power on.
Troubleshoot in-vehicle wireless charging issues

If you experience intermittent charging issues with your Qi2-certified Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, or Pixel 10 Pro Fold, it may be due to certain Qi1-certified in-vehicle wireless chargers. To fix this issue:

  1. Remove your phone from your car’s wireless charging pad.
  2. Remove any phone case, PopSocket, magnetic attachment, or other accessories from your phone.
  3. Place your phone back on the center of the charging pad.
  4. Check if your phone starts charging.

Tip: This issue is common with vertical in-vehicle chargers because the charging coils in the phone and charger may not align perfectly.

If the wireless charging issue continues

  • Use a wired connection for stable charging.
  • Contact your vehicle or charger manufacturer for info about compatibility with Qi2-certified devices.

For a reliable wireless charging experience, use a Qi2-certified charger. You can find “Made for Google” certified accessories that are compatible with your phone at get.google.com/madefor.

Troubleshoot your screen

If you don't find a battery icon after you plug in your phone, there could be a problem with your screen. To check if your screen is the issue, reboot your phone and trigger the ringer.

  1. To reboot your phone, press and hold the Power button for about 35 seconds.
  2. Wait about 2 minutes.
  3. Make your phone ring. You can call it from another phone or use the Find Hub app. Learn how to use Find Hub.
  4. If your phone rings but the screen is still blank, contact your local authorized repair center. Learn how to get your Pixel phone repaired.

Tip: A low brightness setting may make the screen difficult to read. Check the screen closely for any displayed imagery.

Reset your phone manually (optional)

Important: This procedure erases all data on your device. If possible, before you reset, back up your data.

If none of the troubleshooting steps above solves the issue, you can try to follow the steps in Reset your Pixel phone manually with Fastboot mode. For more information and tips for repair or replacement, refer to the section below.
