Set up Transport Mode and At a Glance commute alerts
Important: Google Maps needs time to learn your commute patterns.
- It may take two to three weeks for commute info to appear after the initial setup.
To set up Transport Mode and At a Glance commute alerts through the Modes menu:
- Open your device's Settings app.
- Tap Modes

- To set up your commute, follow the on-screen instructions.
- Set up home and work locations.

Customise Transport Mode settings
You can customise your Transport Mode settings to suit your preferences. This allows you to choose how your Pixel phone behaves while it is enabled during your commute.
- Open your device's Settings app.
- Tap Modes

- Under 'Transport':
- To set volume, Bluetooth and more, tap App settings.
- To set volume settings while travelling, tap Sound on, Vibrate only or Silent.
- To set connectivity while travelling, turn Use Bluetooth while commuting on or off.
- Set up notification filters.
- To receive all notifications, turn on Allow all notifications.
- To choose who can send you notifications, tap People.
- To set which apps can send you notifications, tap Apps.
- To choose which alarms and other interruptions you'll allow, tap Alarms and other interruptions.
- To set volume, Bluetooth and more, tap App settings.

Understanding commute settings and permissions
To provide you with timely and accurate info, this feature requires certain settings and permissions:
- Home and work location: Commute alerts in At a Glance use your saved home and work addresses in Google Maps. This determines your most frequent commute routes and destinations.
- To set it up, go to Personal info.
- Background location: This permission allows At a Glance to send timely public transport info based on your current location.

- Timeline (Location History): When you turn on Timeline, At a Glance can learn your commute history and patterns over time. This helps Google send timely updates based on your commute history.

- Web & App Activity: This feature saves your activity from other Google services, like Google Maps. This refines the personalised commute info and updates that you receive.

To turn off Transport Mode:
- Open your device's Settings app.
- Tap Modes

- Tap Turn off.
Tip: You can also turn Transport Mode on and off from Quick Settings.
Turn commute alerts from At a Glance on or off
To turn off commute info in At a Glance:
- Open your device's Settings app.
- Search for
At a Glance. - Select the result.
- Next to 'At a Glance', tap Settings.
- Under 'Customise', turn Commute on or off.
Fix issues with At a Glance commute alerts
If commute alerts don't appear as expected:
- Make sure that your home and work addresses are set up in Google Maps.
- Verify that At a Glance is turned on for 'Commute' in your device settings.
If you don't receive timely updates, check if your:
- Background location access is granted for Google Maps and your Pixel phone.
- Timeline (Location History) is turned on for your Google Account.
- Notification settings for Google Maps and At a Glance aren't blocked.
If My commute shows incorrect routes or times:
- Make sure that your home and work addresses are accurate in Google Maps.
- Check that your Timeline (Location History) accurately reflects your travel patterns.
