Transfer a SIM to a new phone

You can transfer your physical SIM or eSIM to an eSIM in a new phone while you transfer your data from another device. Depending on your carrier, this may be automatic during the onboarding process. You can also transfer later from your settings menu.

If your device didn't automatically detect eSIM transfer, contact your carrier to activate your eSIM. Your existing device or eSIM can still work even if your eSIM transfer isn't successful. Learn how to set up a new eSIM.

Tip: Depending on your carrier, there may be slight differences in the process.

Important: To use automatic transfer, both your new and current devices must have:

  • Android 12 or later
  • The current version of Google Play Services
  • Set up screen lock

How to transfer a SIM during setup

  1. Have the other device near
  2. Go through the setup flow.
  3. Choose the SIM you want to transfer.
  4. Tap Transfer and then Activate.
  5. Wait for activation and follow instructions on the screen.

How to transfer an eSIM from Settings

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Network & internet and then SIMs and then Add SIM and then Transfer SIM from another device.

Fix issues with eSIM transfer

If you encounter an issue when you transfer an eSIM, try again. For persistent issues, contact your carrier.
