Get emergency help through satellite with your Pixel phone

If you’re in an emergency situation without Wi-Fi or mobile network, you can try to connect with emergency services through satellite.

Who can use Satellite SOS

This feature is available on Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold only.

This feature is currently available in Canada, the US and Puerto Rico, and these European countries:

Access Satellite SOS

This feature will be activated once all the necessary software and APIs are updated and the service is registered with the satellite network. You will be notified once the feature is active. In addition, you can check the status of satellite service availability in Settings.

To contact emergency services when you don’t have a network coverage on your Pixel phone:

  1. Dial the emergency services line in your area, like 911 in the US.
    • If you don't have a mobile or Wi-Fi network, you'll find an option to use Satellite SOS in the dialer.
  2. Tap Satellite SOS android satellite and then Use Satellite SOS and then Start.
  3. To describe your emergency, fill out the emergency questionnaire.
  4. To share your emergency with your emergency contacts, answer the on-screen questions.
    • To notify your emergency contacts, tap Notify.
    • If you don't want your emergency contacts to receive your location and emergency information, tap Don't notify.
  5. To connect to the satellite, follow the on-screen prompts to correctly position your phone.
    • Connection and response times vary based on location, site conditions, and other factors.
  6. Once you're connected, the emergency service provider should reply via text within a few minutes.
    • To receive replies, stay outside with a clear view of the sky.
    • When you would like to end the satellite text conversation, press the End button and follow the prompts.

Tip: You'll need Google Messages as your default messaging app to avail the service. If you change your default messaging app, you'll get a notification that Satellite SOS will no longer be available.

Access Satellite SOS Demo

  1. Open your phone’s Settings app Settings.
  2. Tap Safety & emergency and then Satellite SOS android satellite.
  3. Follow the demo instructions.

Tip: Your mobile network will be disabled temporarily and will automatically turn on when you exit the demo experience.
