This article summarises multiple translation features available on your device.
Voice translate
Voice translate translates your voice into the selected language and mimics your natural voice and tone in real time. You can use it for situations like making restaurant reservations while travelling abroad or communicating with business partners.
Voice translate is only available in certain countries and languages, and requires compatible apps. Translation accuracy may vary, so always double-check important information. Learn how to use voice translate.
Turn on Live Translate
You can translate live text conversations and videos on your Pixel 6 and later, including Fold or tablet.

- Open your device's Settings app.
- Tap System
Live Translate.
- Turn on Use Live Translate. By default, Live Translate will be on.
- Optional: To set a new default target language:
- Tap Translate to.
- Select a language.
- Tap Select language.
- Optional: Add more source languages:
- Tap Add a language.
- Select a language.
- Tap Select language.
Languages supported with Live Translate
- Chat: AR, DA, DE, EN, ES, FA, FR, HI, IT, JP, KO, NL, PL, PT, RU, SV, TH, TR, VI, zh_CN and zh-TW
- Media: DE, EN, ES, FR, IT and JP
Translate text messages
When you turn on Live Translate, you can translate text messages on some chat apps. All translations take place on-device.
To switch between the original and your chosen language, tap the language bubble.
To update language preferences:
- Open a text conversation that’s in another language.
- Tap the translate chip.
- In the drop-down
, update the translation languages.
To translate a single message:
- Open a text message that’s in another language.
- Touch and hold to select text.
- Tap Copy

- Tap Translate copied text.

Translate text with your camera
You can translate text that you find on things like menus and signs using your camera.
- On your Pixel search bar, tap Lens

- Take a photo of the words that you want to translate.

To translate as you scroll down a page or switch apps:
- Touch and hold the Home button or navigation bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Translate

Translation works for most content types like web pages, messages and social media, but not videos and GIFs.
Translate captions on media
To switch caption languages on media like videos, podcasts, phone calls, video calls and audio messages, tap the live caption. To turn on Live Caption, press the volume button and tap Live Caption 
Use Google Translate with Dual Screen support (Pixel Fold (1st gen) and later)
You can use Google Translate for a more natural way to translate, which makes face-to-face conversations in different languages even easier. With Dual Screen support, translations appear on the inside and outside screens.
Important: To make sure that the translation is correct when you use Dual Screen, make sure that you don't cover the microphone.
To use Dual Screen in Google Translate:
- Open your Google Translate app

- Unfold your phone.
- Click Conversation.
- Tap Face to face
.
- Tap Dual Screen
.
- Start speaking and the translation will appear on the outer screen.
.Use Dual Screen Live Transcribe (Pixel Fold (1st gen) and later)
This feature allows you to communicate with others by holding up your Pixel Fold or Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Conversation partners can read the caption on the outer screen while the other user can communicate with TalkBack or text-to-speech (TTS). Learn more about text-to-speech settings.
To turn on Dual Screen Live Transcribe:
- Open your phone's Settings app

- Tap Accessibility
- Tap Open Live Transcribe.
- Unfold your phone.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Dual Screen
